Estefana Cardenas

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Estefana "Hope" Cardenas, 65, of Las Cruces on Friday, May 10, 2013 at La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by her loving family. "Hope" as she was fondly known to family and friends was born Nov. 10, 1947 in La Mesa to Pablo and Estefana Saenz Rodriguez. Hope worked as a data entry clerk at New Mexico State University for 15 years and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Those left to mourn her passing included a son, Benjamin Martinez of Las Cruces; two daughters, Stephanie Paoli and husband Joe of Lake Jackson, Texas, and Elfida "Chefie" Martinez of El Paso, Texas; a brother, Ramon Rodriguez and wife Irene of La Mesa. Other survivors include four grandchildren, Marissa Flores, Maria, Robert and Marco Paoli, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Hope was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Henry Cardenas, on June 6, 2012 and a brother, Pablo Rodriguez. At Hope's request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, (today) May 15, 2013 at Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road with Rev. Don Adamski officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be at a later date. Service arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels of Las Cruces and Sunset Crematory. 527-2222.
