Jane Swiztowicz (Lasater)

Jane Swistowicz (Lasater) passed away on Dec. 12, 2013, at the age of 92 at Sunset Vista Adult Residential Care Center in Silver City, NM. She was born in St. Louis, MO, on Feb. 10, 1921, to Leonard and Jennie Lasater, the second of three children. She enjoyed ice skating, square dancing, playing tennis and golf, traveling, and card games of all kinds, especially bridge. She married Rudolph Swistowicz, aka "Swiss" on Oct. 17, 1943. Jane helped her husband develop a successful business in Missouri while being a devoted mother of two children; Scott, born in 1950, and Lark, born in 1955. In 1994, Jane and her husband moved to Sun City, AZ, where she took classes in weaving and basket making. She continued playing golf and participating in square dancing, along with her passion for playing bridge. Jane became a widow in 1999, after 56 years of marriage. In 2006, Jane moved to Silver City with her daughter and son-in-law, Lark and Curt Hardcastle. She became part of a very dynamic and busy three-member household. Jane quickly joined the Newcomers Club and jumped right in to the activities at the Silver City Senior Center on a daily basis. In the winter of 2009 she suffered a stroke, never recovering completely, and she became a resident of Sunset Vista, enjoying the companionship of many residents and loving staff. Jane continued to make her way to the Senior Citizen Center three to four times a week; participating in Tai Chi classes, playing bingo and of course any game of bridge that could be found. Due to failing health, in June of 2013, she stopped going to the senior center and by September was under Gila Regional Hospice Care until her passing last week. She is survived by her daughter, Lark Hardcastle and husband, Curt, of Silver City; granddaughter Kate Logan of Lander, WY.; granddaughter, Brooke Thompson of Tucson, AZ.; grandson, Jeff Swistowicz of Park City, UT. She has four great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Scott Logan, and Quinn and Tate Thompson. Survivors also include her sister-in-law, Alma Lasater in Tempe, AZ; daughter-in-law, Beverly Swistowicz in Cheyenne, WY. Along with nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews spread from California to New York. No services will be held at this time. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Gila Regional Hospice are preferred.
