Obituary Condolences

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Carleen Marcella Valles, 50, lifelong resident of Las Cruces, on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012. Marcella, as she was known to family and friends, was born in Las Cruces on Feb. 12, 1962, to Ernest and Emilia Herrera Utter. She was professional baker and cake decorator and a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Her heart was filled with love, sweetness, understanding and courage. We were all blessed to have her come into our lives. She was an inspiration and taught us to always see the good, no matter how bad the situation was. Marcella lived each day with faith and love for God and her family, living every day with a smile and sharing it through her humorous ways. She had so much love in her heart and wanted to spread that love from one to another. Marcella touched many lives through her artistic talent and her amazing cakes. She will be dearly missed and always remembered. With our faith, we will one day be together again. Those left to mourn her passing include her loving husband of 27 years, Victor Valles, of the family home; one beautiful daughter, Cassandra Valles; her parents, Ernest and Emilia Utter; two brothers, Ernest Utter Jr. and wife, Debbie, all of Las Cruces, and Leonard Utter and wife, Ida, of Albuquerque; two sisters, Cathy Ramirez and Teresa Calderon and husband, Tony, all also of Las Cruces. Other survivors include her maternal grandmother, Ophelia Utter-Whitehead, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who loved and adored her. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Andelecia and Wencelau Herrera and a niece, Inez Chavez. Visitation for Marcella will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 p.m. at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina St. Family and friends will join together to celebrate the funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, in the same church, with the Rev. Ricardo Bauza, celebrant.
