Guadalupe Dominguez Orta

1930 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
GUADALUPE DOMINGUEZ ORTA, age 88, of Tortugas passed from this life on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at La Posada - Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by his loving family.
He was born January 5, 1930 in Peoria, AZ to Hipolito and Luisa Dominguez Orta. "Guadalupe", or "Lupe", as he was fondly known, worked and retired from the NMSU Physical Plant as a bricklayer foreman, after 33 years. He was a man of many talents, building his own home from the ground up. He was a self-made plumber, electrician, cabinet maker, cement finisher, tile installer, mason, framer and auto mechanic. He was an entrepreneur, owning and operating a water well drilling company, and photography business. As a photographer, he recorded many weddings, quinceaneras and first holy communions, in and around the Las Cruces community. Despite his limited education, he was an avid reader and learner of many interests, including holistic medicine. With his knowledge of this medicine, he cared for his loving "vieja's" illness, extending her life for many years to this day. He was a lector, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, in Tortugas, NM, for most of his life. A consummate family man, we will never forget our picnics at the park, or on the banks of the Rio Grande, cooking out, playing volleyball, baseball and kickball, or the nicknames he called his kids by. He loved sports, especially Aggie basketball, and was a season ticket holder for years. You have left this earth Dad, but will live in our memories forever, especially your humor and love of pranks. Your spirit lives on, and we are comforted because we know that we will be reunited with you in heavenly glory. Adios viejito, you will be missed.

Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife, Yolanda Nevarez Orta of the family home; six sons, Mauro Orta (Martha), Hipolito N. Orta (Emma) Armando Orta, Jesus Guadalupe Orta (Libby), Victor Orta (Lisa), and Jose Luis Orta (Nancy); a daughter, Sara Luisa Ceniceros (Raul Jr.); a brother, Hipolito Orta; four sisters, Margarita Orta, Maria Montoya (George), Luz Serna and Manuela Salcido (Henry) all of Las Cruces. Other survivors include twenty grandchildren; nine great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Juanita "Jenny" Portillo; a brother-in-law, Alfonso Serna and a sister-in-law, Carmen Orta.

Visitation will begin at 6 PM Tuesday (today), June 12, 2018 in the Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 3600 Parroquia Street in Tortugas where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 PM. Family and Friends will join together to celebrate the Funeral Mass at 9 AM Wednesday, June 13, 2018 in the same church with Reverend Valentine Jankowski officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the Tortugas Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.

Serving as casket bearers will be Mauro, Hipolito N., Jesus, Jose Luis and Victor Orta, and Raul Ceniceros Jr.

The family would like to thank the special staff at Mesilla Valley Hospice for taking care of our father with dignity, professionalism, and steadfast gentleness during the final days of his life. They are truly angels on Earth.

The family requests that you honor Lupe by making a donation in his name to: Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 E. Montana, Las Cruces, NM 88001, so that others may be able to experience the special care he received.
