Colonel Kary Wall Obituary
Colonel Kary Darrell Wall, 80, of Las Cruces passed away peacefully on March 20, 2013 after a short illness. He was born in Elida, N.M. on May 26, 1932 to Kary P. and Vera Wall. After graduating from Elida High School and New Mexico A&M (NMSU), Darrell was called active duty with the U.S. Army in 1954 and commissioned a second lieutenant. He lived life with a desire to learn and to accomplish as much as he could. Darrell's educational accomplishments included an MPA from George Washington University, completion of the Executive's Advancement Management Program at the University of Southern California, and attendance at The United States Army Command and General Staff College and the National Defense University. After retirement from the U.S. Army in 1983, the lure of his native New Mexico influenced Darrell's return to Las Cruces where he became active in the community. Darrel was past chairman of the Republican Party of Doña Ana County, as well as being active in several of the bodies of the Masonic Fraternity of New Mexico. He is survived by Betty, his wife of 59 years; his children Kenneth (Terri) and Kathleen (Steve) Wright; grandchildren, Sean Holman, Kari Holman and Sam; his sister, Olita Salopek, of Las Cruces, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Geneva Daugherty of Elida. Darrell will be remembered as a beloved husband, a loving father, wonderful grandfather, and a very faithful friend. A private burial took place at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial services to celebrate Darrell's life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in his name to Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 Montana, Las Cruces, NM.
