Obituary Condolences

Manuel "Pimpas" G. Acosta Sr., age 72, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, left our world peacefully on Tuesday at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Atenojenes and Juana Guzman Acosta on April 8, 1935, in Mesilla. Manuel retired as a supervisor from the New Mexico Highway and Transportation Department in 1987. He was a member of the Catholic Church.
Survivors include his loving wife, Severiana Hernandez Acosta of the family home; his children, Manuel Acosta Jr. and wife Myrna; Jerry Perez; Ernest Perez; Norma Jean Vega and husband, Tony; Dorothy Morales and husband, Cruz; Doraanne Lira and husband Ruben; Sylvia Gonzales and husband Eli; all of Las Cruces; Raymond Acosta and wife Cathy of Cleveland, Ohio; Alfredo Acosta and wife, Mary, of San Diego, Calif.; Rudy Hernandez and wife Connie of Albuquerque; Sammy Perez and wife Lisa of Lakewood, Colo.; Michael Perez of Fort Worth, Texas; Eugene Perez and wife Tammy of Denver, Colo.; three sisters, Celia Perez and Erlinda Florez, both also of Las Cruces; and Mary Helen Torrez and husband, Hildo, of Mesilla. Other survivors include 36 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert "Bobby" Acosta; his siblings, Sara Gamboa, Dora Sanchez, Henry, Lupe, Larry and Frank Acosta.
Visitation for Manuel will begin at 6 p.m. on Monday at Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road, where the prayer vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. Family and Friends will join together to celebrate the funeral liturgy at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in San Albino Cemetery.
Serving as casketbearers will be Jason and Anthony Duran, Orlando Acosta, Charlie Arzabal, Cruz Morales and Rudy Hernandez. Honorary casket bearer will be Jerry Perez.
