Martin M. Rede Obituary
Martin M. Rede

Las Cruces - Martin M Rede, 64, lifelong resident of Las Cruces, entered eternal life unexpectedly on August 8, 2019. Martin was born on December 28, 1954 in Las Cruces to Manuel & Teresa Rede.

Martin was always involved in youth sports. Active in Little League, Pony League and Connie Mack baseball & selected to play for the American Legion Select baseball team.

In 1977, the Boys & Girls Club needed volunteer coaches for the newly established basketball program, so Martin & his two good friends, Jimmy Rivera & Manny Arellano volunteered. In the mid 1980s, the president of the Bantam Weight Association basketball program picked Martin & the same friends to re-establish the program, making them the founding fathers of this program, which is still in effect today. In the 1990s, this same group established a traveling all-star team and won 10 championships. Together these three friends combined, volunteered to coach the youth of this community for 45 years.

Martin always had a smile & a conversation for anybody, but his passion was for his grandchildren. They were the light of his life! He will be deeply missed by all who knew & loved him. He is survived by his stepsons from Austin TX Jonathan Stermer & wife Charlie, and Michael Stermer; his grandchildren Daimon Gonzales, Devinn, Athena & Brooke Stermer, also from Austin; Brother Jack (Debbie) Rede from Meridian ID; Sisters Barbara (Don) Bowcut from Mesa AZ, and Rosalie Rede from Albuquerque NM; several nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Boy, & many friends which he considered family as well.
