Obituary Condolences

Our dearest mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend, Lucy C. Marrujo, age 90, lifelong resident of Las Cruces entered eternal life Saturday, July 19, 2014 at La Posada-Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Lucy as she was fondly known by family and friends was born Sept. 26, 1923 to Domingo and Refugio Fierro Cadena. Lucy worked as a Dental Assistant retiring in 1984; was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for over 60 years and a devout member of the Roman Catholic Church. Lucy always expressed that her greatest accomplishment was her family; being a wife, a mother and grandmother. Lucy's generosity, good humor and steadfast ways extended well beyond her immediate family. She was known to provide love and shelter to a variety of extended family and did so with great pride and joy. Those left to mourn her passing include two sons, Gilbert Marrujo and wife Norma of Las Cruces, Richard Marrujo and wife Dora of Phoenix, Arizona; three daughters, Gloria Marrujo, Annette Childers and Dolores Ramos and husband Jess all of Las Cruces; a brother, Manuel Cadena and wife Helen of Mesilla. Other survivors include thirteen grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry A. Marrujo in 1978; three brothers, Jose, Tito and Tirso Cadena; two sisters, Dolores Cadena and Clara Carrillo. Visitation for Mrs. Marrujo will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Holy Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2014 in the Basilica of San Albino, 2280 Calle Principal in Mesilla with the Reverend Ray Flores, Celebrant. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Masonic Cemetery, 760 S. Compress Road where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband. Serving as casket bearers will be Danny Jr. Michael and Rey Cadena, Joel and Ray Carrillo and Henry Marrujo. Honorary bearers will be Elaine Manterola, Gabe and Dominic Flores, Rudy Carrillo, Abel Covarrubias, Roy Allen Childers, Clay and Mark Garrett. The Marrujo Family wishes to extend special thanks and gratitude to the Staff at La Posada-Mesilla Valley Hospice; Reverends Don Adamski and Ray Flores and Deacon David McNeill, Jr. Services arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels of Las Cruces. 527-2222.
