Emma Jiménez

Obituary Condolences

"Donde come uno comen cuatro" (Where one can eat, four can eat.) was a common saying in the house of Emma Jiménez, 82, who entered into eternal life Wednesday, August 13, 2014.
Emma was born to Catalina and Jesus Gandara in the Rancho Hacienda del Parral, Chih. Mexico in November of 1932 and is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Ramon Jiménez, siblings Gonzalo Gandara and Bertha Gandara-Lara, feisty children Elizabeth Kovash & husband Richard, Sandra Adams & husband Tom, Lucy Jiménez & partner David Morones, and Ramon Jiménez II and wife Josie. Emma is survived by equally feisty grandchildren Sarah Nolan, Megan Kovash, Katlyne Silva and Ramon Jiménez III, and her most feisty great-granddaughter Eva Nolan.

Emma's family and friends remember her with full hearts and full stomachs. If she wasn't feeding family her tasty tamales, famous and evasive mole (get some before it runs out) and ever present "Nana Beans," she was sharing her deep faith and hope in life and in one another. "Cuídense!" (Take care of one another!) she would remind us daily. Emma taught us to pray the rosary, roll out the perfect tortilla, study hard, work smart and value good lipstick.
Emma Jiménez came to the US with her husband through the Bracero Program that invited agricultural workers to help with the labor shortage in the 50s and 60s. Emma was proud to live and raise her family in the US, and she loved New Mexico. Emma lived much of her life in San Miguel, NM and later in Vado, NM.

Emma was stubborn and loved to be right but she loved to laugh, sing and dance with those she loved the most.

Emma was preceded in death by siblings Jesus Gandara, Francisca Medina, Eva Gandara and Isidro Gandara, and her father Jesus Gandara and mother Catalina Benavente-Gandara.
A Rosary and Mass will be held at San Miguel Catholic Church on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 10 am and 10:45 am respectively. Memorial Contributions can be made to San Miguel Catholic Church, 19217 S. Highway 28 Drawer E, San Miguel, NM 88058. For online condolences go to www.lapaz-grahams.com.
