Rafaela "Fela" Fierro Chavez, 92, a lifelong resident of the Las Cruces area joined her beloved husband "Joe" on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012. Rafaela was a longstanding employee of the Las Cruces Public School system, active organizer and member of the PTA, faithful congregant of St. Genevieve's Catholic Church and a member to a variety of other women's clubs of Las Cruces. Rafaela was a wonderful wife, mother and sister. The memory she leaves behind cannot be put into words because it is simply a culmination of feelings. She always knew how to make you feel loved, understood and important. She always knew what to say to ease a worried mind and had a prayer to offer on anyone's behalf. She is preceded in death by her father and mother; Manuel and Florentina Fierro, her brothers; Demetrio and Arturo, her sister, Corina, her first born child, Sheila and her husband Jose "Joe" Chavez. She is survived by her sister, Elisa Lujan, her children; David Chavez and Margaret Nicolitz, her granddaughter, Nicole Nicolitz, 11 nephews and nieces, 15 grand-nephews and nieces and 18 great nephews and nieces. A viewing is scheduled at La Paz - Graham's Funeral Home Chapel, 555 W. Amador Ave. on Sunday, Sept. 16 from 6 - 7 p.m. with a rosary to begin at 7 p.m., A funeral mass will be held at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. To sign the guest book log on to www.lapaz-grahams.com.
