Lloyd Martin, Jr. PALMYRA Lloyd "Rocky" Martin, Jr., 96, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at his home. He was born Monday, July 23, 1917 in Snydertown to the late Lloyd, Sr. and Minnie (Kahney) Martin. He was predeceased by his loving wife Hazel (Hornberger) Martin in 1975. He attended Coal Township High School, served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and retired from the Hershey Company after nearly 40 years of faithful service. He was an active member of Gravel Hill United Methodist Church, served as Assistant Chief and later Chief of Citizens Fire Company No.1 for 10 years, was former Assistant Fire Marshal to the PA State Police, and received many awards and decorations for his years of community service. Being a survivor of the great depression shaped the person known to all as "Rocky". He was humble, hardworking, and generous to those in need. He was a strong but loving man who will be missed by many. He is survived by a son, Robert L. Martin, Sr. and wife Shirley (Lebo) of Palmyra; two grandchildren, Robert L. Martin, Jr. and wife Sara of Palmyra, and Lisa E. Vonada and husband (Robert) of Palmyra; four great grandchildren, Madilynn, Henry, Lana, and Lucy; one brother, COL (Ret.) John L. Martin, US Army, of Wellsville. He was predeceased by two brothers, Richard L. and William R. Martin; a sister, Geraldine Love. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with full military and fire service honors which will be held on Saturday, April 26th at 2:45 p.m. in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra with Rev. Douglas Smith officiating. The family would like to express a special thank you to Kathy Kreider and Cindy Bankowitz for the wonderful care provided by Griswold Home Care. Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078 has been entrusted with the arrangements.
