Isabel Harom

ISABEL HARMON (BETTS) nee Ferguson Isabel was born on May 30, 1923 and passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2009. She was predeceased by her parents, Humble Ferguson and Mary Lazurko; husbands, John Earl Betts and Jack Henry Harmon; granddaughter, Jennifer Hughes; brothers, Bill Ferguson and Bob Ferguson. Isabel will be lovingly remembered by her children, Joan (Elbert) Walker of Regina, Georgina (Tom) Arntzen of Vancouver, Jean (Drew) Pearson of Lone Pine, AB, John Jeffrey Betts Harmon of Ontario, Lois (Alan) McNeil of Penticton and John Douglas (Diane) Harmon of Alberta; grandchildren, Robert (Roean Renwick) Hughes, Christopher Hughes, Evan Arntzen, Arnt Arntzen, Joshua Pearson, Jacob Pearson, Riley Harmon and Jack Harmon; great grandchildren, Alexandria Renwick, Vincent Renwick and Cole Howatt. She will be greatly missed by her family, as well as a large number of nieces, nephews and her many friends. Isabel grew up on the farm near Orcadia, SK. When she was 22 years old she enlisted in the Canadian Women's Army on April 10, 1944 until April 24, 1946 and served as a Lance Corporal. She married Jack Betts in 1947 and spent her life as a homemaker, raising children and contributing to the community where she has lived since the early 1950's. She married Jack Harmon in 1973 and had a wonderful partnership of 28 years with him. Her career following the homemaking years included being a tour guide at the RCMP barracks in Regina for the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, which she enjoyed. During retirement, Isabel spent many hours playing bridge with her various groups of friends. Her garden was always her passion and she truly loved sharing her produce with everyone. Isabel also loved to cook and was always eager to feed you her pies. She was devoted to Broadway United Church and enjoyed the fellowship and friends she found there. A Celebration of our Mother's full and productive Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2009 at Broadway United Church, 105 Broadway Ave., Regina, SK with Rev. Jim Balfour officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. To Celebrate Isabel's love of flowers and gardening, as single posy could be carried by her friends and family during the service.
