Lavina TATOIU Obituary

Published by Regina Leader-Post on Apr. 25, 2013.
TATOIU, Lavina
Suddenly on April 18, 2013 our beloved child of GOD, Lavina Tatoiu, passed away. Lavina was 69 years of age and lived a life of loving, caring and giving. Lavina is predeceased by her father George Tatoiu; her mother Francis Tatoiu;, and her two precious brothers Emile and Vernie Tatoiu. Lavina will be lovingly remembered and cherished by her two loving daughters, Lisa Strom (nee Hambley; son-in-law Curtis), Selene Finalyson (nee Hambley; son-in-law Preston); her beautiful grandchildren, Seth Finlayson, Justin Strom, Jordon Strom (Denise Strom), Trina Bonnet (nee Finlayson; husband Lucas Bonnet); her two precious great- grandchildren Coen and Kiera Strom; her loving sister Yvonne "Shelley Taylor" (nee Tatoiu; brother-in-law Clyde Taylor); and her godchild Michael Taylor. Lavina was a loving mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends, but especially by her grandchildren and great- grandchildren as she truly enjoyed being a youthful and fun grandmother. She had a wonderful sense of humour and a quick wit which all the family enjoyed. Lavina was born on March 20, 1944 in Limerick, Saskatchewan where she spent her youth growing up with her many cousins, her brother Emile, as well as, going to school, and riding her favourite horse Greyboy. Lavina's passion was ballet, art and music. Her joy was dancing which resulted in many awards and scholarships to advance her future in ballet. When the family moved to Regina, Lavina met and married Mark Hambley. Soon after, God blessed her with two beautiful daughters, Lisa and Selene. Then in the mid-seventies Lavina and her family moved to Victoria, BC where she spent the remainder of her years seeing her daughters married and raising their own children and grandchildren. Most of all, Lavina celebrated all her blessings through her faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. She was a woman who believed in helping those much less fortunate, and those who did not have the means for the basics of life - food, shelter and support. Donations in memory of Lavina are graciously accepted to a charity of your choice honouring those less fortunate. A PRAYER SERVICE will be held at St Georges Orthodox Cathedral, 2005 Edgar Street, Regina, SK on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at St. Georges Orthodox Cathedral on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. with interment to follow at St Peter and Paul Cemetery, Flintoft, SK, a place where she felt was her true home. My husband David and I knew Vina when she lived with her mother, father and Emile on Grace Street in Regina. Her and I went to public school together and were good friends for many years. We re-connected in Regina many years later. I married David and we moved to Toronto and then to White Rock and for the past several months I have been looking for Vina on the internet and on "Classmates" a site to help you find your school buddies. I was so looking forward to re-connecting with Vina and once again and building a close relationship. Our sympathies to her family - she was a beautiful and special person.

I remember the day we met for lunch in Saskatoon. What a pleasure it was! The only other time I met my first cousin was at our family reunion on Uncle George's farm back in the 80's. She was such a beautiful lady!

Vina and I reconnected at the 100-year anniversary of the Sts. Peter and Paul Romanian Orthodox Church in 2011 after not seeing each other since childhood when we would have the best time during her parents' winter visits to Windsor, Ont. I will miss my first cousin deeply. Love, Linda (Costie) Eggert

Lavina, I will miss your gentle and caring manner and your abiding faith. You were proud of your Romanian heritage and your orthodox roots. While your life wasn't easy, you always managed to look toward what is best. I'm sure the angels ushered you into the presence of your Lord and Saviour. Kathy and I truly cherish our memories of you. Rest in peace.

Vina, you will be missed for your beautiful spirit and friendship. Although we only knew each other for a short time, we developed an immediate kinship and our time together will be long cherished. With loving thoughts and memories you will live on in our hearts. Blessings to your family at this time.

During this past year we often socialized with Vina on our Friday nights out and about. We enjoyed her humour and her warmth which she extended to everyone . We will miss her so very much.
