United Way of Regina
February 9, 2010
Please accept sincerest condolences on behalf of all the Staff at United Way of Regina. Clayton had been a volunteer member of our Speaker's Bureau for many, many years. He was always willing to do as many speaking engagements as possible throughout the year, especially in the Fall, on behalf of The Canadian Paraplegic Association, one of our 34 Funded Partners.
Clayton helped promote United Way and the Paraplegic Association to hundreds of workplaces and thousands of people over the years; inspiring persons with spinal cord injuries and other physical disabilities and the community as a whole to get involved, to give back and make a difference.
One of the phrases we use at United Way is "Together, we are changing lives" and Clayton was one of those people who could forever change your life the very first time you met him.

I first met Clayton in the early 80's. I was the coach of Saskatchewan's wheelchair rugby team and we were recruiting players and had been told about this amazing guy who might be a good addition to our team.
Over the next several years he became the mainstay on our team, leading us to 5 national championships and the team was arguably the best in the world. Clayton's style of play mirrored his approach to life, "give 'er!" and he was the catalyst that made that amazing team go.
I also had the pleasure of meeting and working with Bill and Eileen during this time and could tell they were extremely supportive and proud of their son.
Ruth helped with the team and over time we could see the special relationship growing.
My family commitments forced me to leave the team in the early 90's but I was able to see Clayton from time to time and every time I saw him, he brought a smile to my face.
He will leave a hole in many people's lives that will be difficult to fill.
Ruth and girls, Bill and Eileen, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to you. He will not be forgotten.

Clayton was our "Poster Boy" the year I was a loaned rep. for the United Way of Regina. I heard him speak many times during that year, and I always found him inspiring. He had an infectious smile, and a wonderful sense of humour. He was so proud of his family, and never hesitated to say so. He taught us all that life is what you make it. How you can take a bad situation and turn it into something positive. He worked hard & trained hard to become one of the best athletes around. I know he touched my heart, and I am sure the hearts of everyone who knew him.
My thoughts & prayers go out to his family and I know his spirit will live on forever.

Clayton was such a great public speaker, especially at the university class where I first meet him. later on, it just happened that, I got to chat with him almost every week after he finshed rugby practice and before I started basketball practice. It was always a joy to talk and joke with him, His presence will be missed by myself and by the many others that he touched.

Although I never met Clayton, I know the impact he had on two people I taught who were dealing with spinal injuries. He helped them see that life could go on and inspired them to be the best they could be. He will live on through all those people he inspired. Your memories will keep him alive in your heart forever. My thoughts and prayers are with you>

Rest in Peace Clayton, you are a fierce competitor and no doubt battled to the end. You accomplished things that the rest of your friends only wished they could have achieved. We know you will be sadly missed by many but remembered by all with great fondness. God Bless, Curtis & Tammy Beaudry.

My thoughts and prayers to Ruth and the girls. Clayton was a great inspiration for my Dad (Peter McCamon) when Ruth was helping my Dad with Physio in 1994-1996 and Clayton would stop by and chat with him. It all helped to encourage him to keep trying no matter what anybody told him.

From the time we heard of this amazing guy from Saskatchewan who was winning gold, to the time sharing the maternity ward when our daughters were born, to the many times meeting when you traveled, you will always be remembered for you great attitude and smile. We always knew that any not that said this person traveling with a wheel chair and needs assistance would be proven wrong. You always took care of everything with the least possible assistance. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
