WILMOTTE TEMPLETON McCALLUM
1918 - 2012
Wilmotte Templeton McCallum passed away peacefully Monday, July 2, 2012 of old age at Stensrud Lodge, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at the age of 93. She was predeceased by her mother and father Bell Christie White and Albert Humphrey White and her brother Lisle (killed in France, July 6, 1944) and her beloved husband Gordon Nicklin McCallum in 1992. She is survived by her three children and their families; Lisle and Barbara (Swenson) McCallum of Saskatoon and their children Gordon and Shayla (Dahl) McCallum of Edmonton, Alberta, Caroline (McCallum) and Landon Leclair of Edmonton, Alberta; Sheila (McCallum) and Bill Wilson of Waterloo, Ontario and their children Richard and Lydia (Svoboda) Wilson of Waterloo, Ontario, Heather (Wilson) and Kevin Clow of Ariss, Ontario, and Laura (Wilson) and Neil Callaghan of Kitchener, Ontario; and John and Susan (Jack) McCallum of Summit, New Jersey and their children Katherine McCallum of New York, Christopher McCallum of New York and Jennifer McCallum of Charlottesville, Virginia . Also surviving are her great grandchildren Spencer, Jaelyn and Bennett McCallum, Peyton and Mason Leclair, Gordon Clow, James and Ryan Wilson, Liam and Clare Callaghan. Wilmotte was born in 1918 in Ottawa, Ontario where her parents were stationed. She grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan and had a wonderful childhood figure skating with her brother Lisle. She graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1940 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and worked in Montreal at Eaton's for two and a half years where she met her husband, Gordon. She and Gordon were married at St. James' Church June 24, 1944 and were happily married for 48 years. Gordon founded McCallum Real Estate and Insurance and Wilmotte stayed home to raise the children in a loving and caring home. She was the glue of the family, entertaining aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends with style and grace. The pool parties at 405 Albert complete with panda bear cakes were great fun. She kept in touch with her "suite nine" girls from university days and enjoyed playing bridge with the "bridge gals" for many years. She had a great love of her community and put her organizational skills to good use in the Mendel Art Gallery, K-ettes, St. James' Church and the Riverside golf club. She golfed at Riverside Golf Club well into her 80's and loved to watch golf, hockey and football on TV when she and Gordon could no longer drive to the Saskatchewan Roughrider games in Regina. She and Gordon loved to travel and visited their children in several countries and after Gordon's death she continued to travel when she could. In 1993, the Royal Regina Rifles came into her life and a highlight was a trip to France for the 50th anniversary of D-Day in 1994 and appearing in a CBC documentary film "Fields of Fire". Although she enjoyed visiting other countries, she was a proud Canadian and loved Saskatoon and Saskatchewan. She was a wonderful much loved wife, mother, grannie and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by all. She once wrote, "all in all I am a fortunate lady who has given and received many blessings."
"A life very well lived".
The funeral service will be held at St. James' Church (607 Dufferin Ave) on Friday, July 6th 6th 2012 at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow in the church hall prior to a family interment service at Woodlawn Cemtery. Condolences may be sent to [email protected]. For those so wishing memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home.

Dear Lisle, Sheila & John:
It is sad to lose someone who was larger than life. Your Mum was a special person to many of us in the good old days. Even though we were kids, she treated us with the utmost in kindness, dignity and respect.
Sincere sympathy.

Lisle, Sheila and John - I am so sorry to hear this news. We are losing that generation. Wilmotte was a remarkable woman and one thought she might live forever. She is part of my very earliest childhood memories - Christmases, lake etc! Sending hugs to you all.
