Dan Pruitt, 63, of Vandalia, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Services will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday at Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Jerry Bagwell officiating. Per Dan's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until time of services on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials: The family. Online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com.
Danny Ray Pruitt was born on April 10, 1953, in Vandalia, the son of Wilma Stoneburner Depew. He married Nori Adermann on June 23, 1971, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia.
Dan was working at Vandalia Lumber when he and Nori were married, then he established his construction business, A-One Building Contractors. Later, he taught building trades at the Okaw Area Vocational Center in Vandalia, and most recently, he was an over-the-road truck driver for Lach Transportation. Dan was a volunteer firefighter for the city of Vandalia from 1974-89, serving as the second assistant chief at one time. He was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association and a Harley Davidson enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife; son, Jeff Pruitt and his wife April of Effingham; daughters, Kelly Jo and her husband Jason Garrison of O'Fallon, Mo., and Kerri Lynn and her husband Joseph Patterson of Vandalia; grandchildren, Dalaney Jo, Dayton Cole and Dallis Kay Patterson, all of Vandalia; brothers, Larry Pruitt and his wife Sally of Herrick, and Lonnie Pruitt and his wife Nancy of Arizona City, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Maurice Wilson and his friend Jill Wright of Vandalia; sister, Connie and her husband Kevin Edgar of Vandalia; brother-in-law, Merle Adermann and his wife Georgi; sister-in-law, Genny and her husband Dean Matzker of Vandalia; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother; loving grandmother, Fern Stoneburner; granddaughter, Brooklyn Renee Patterson; father- and mother-in-law, Ed and Margaret Adermann; sister, Darlene Wilson; and nieces, Laura LaNae Pruitt and Dana Lynn Brown; and nephew, Ryan Matzker.
