Deloris M. Peckron, 92, of Vandalia, passed away at 9:30 p.m.on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.
Cremation rites were accorded. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Krista Stokke officiating. Mrs. Peckron was born on Dec. 21, 1925, at Mark Greer Hospital in Vandalia, the third of seven children born to Nelson and Anna Bell (Stout) Lawler.
Deloris was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church. She attended Vandalia Schools, except second grade in Vera, and graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1943.
Being offered a Civil Service job with the Treasury Department in Chicago, she left Vandalia to spend the next 30 years in Chicago and its suburbs. Deloris married Stanley Peckron on July 14, 1945, at Grace Lutheran Church, where Stan had been baptized and confirmed. They had two children: Jeffrey and Stephen. Stan and Deloris retired back to Vandalia once their children were grown and in college, and Deloris worked for 15 years as secretary to the administrators of Fayette County Hospital. They moved to Florida in 1986, but found on their subsequent vacations that they preferred North Carolina, and moved to Franklin in February 1990. Stan preceded in death on Aug. 31, 1990. Deloris then transferred her church membership to St. James Lutheran Church in 1998 when she moved back to Vandalia.
She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Peckron and his wife Cheryl of Tucson, Ariz., and Stephen Peckron and his wife Darlene of Beaufort, Ga.; sister, Jeanne Hohlt of Vandalia; brothers, Larry Lawler and his wife Shelby of Decatur, and Jerry Lawler and his wife Pat of Florissant, Mo.; grandchildren, Janey Allen, Christopher Peckron, Emily Hubert, Alex Peckron and Adam Peckron; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Bob Lawler and Dick Lawler; and a sister, Connie Wilk.
