Doris Jean Ruff, 68, of Pinckneyville, formerly of Vandalia, passed away at 5:42 p.m. on Monday, March 27, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia. Burial will be in Evans Cemetery in rural Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials: First Pentecostal Church of Vandalia. Online condolences can be expressed at
Mrs. Ruff was born on Sept. 3, 1948, in Vandalia, the daughter of Chester and Goldie Faye (Elliott) Diveley.
She worked at Crane Packing in Vandalia for 15 years, and farmed with her husband, Dean Ruff, after the two were married on July 25, 1988. She was a former member of Vandalia Eagles Lodge No. 3901 and current member of Pinckneyville Eagles Lodge No. 2522. Doris was baptized into the Pentecostal faith at First Pentecostal Church of Vandalia. She loved to fish, farm with her husband and spend time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Janesa and her husband Randy Whitener of Pinckneyville; son, Jason Plunkett and his wife Steffanie of Vandalia; stepchildren, Dianne and her husband Kenneth Kuerth of Gridley, Linda and her husband David Sass of Streator, and Dale Ruff and his wife Jody of Long Point; brothers, Larry Dively of Vandalia, Eddie Diveley of Vandalia and Scotty Diveley of Center Point, Iowa; sisters, Glenda Hamblin and Linda Cohoon, both of Vandalia; grandchildren, Ethan Plunkett, Colton Runge and Chloe Runge; five stepgrandchildren; nine great-stepgrandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Gary and Gale Diveley; and a stepgrandson.
