Edward Arthur Opfer, 88, of Shobonier, passed away at 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Shobonier, with the Rev. Douglas Meyer officiating, and with a one-hour viewing prior to the service. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the church. Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in rural Shobonier. Memorials: St. Paul Lutheran Church, or donor's choice. Mr. Opfer was born on Feb. 13, 1930, in Lincoln, Mo., the son of Arthur and Cordelia (Hollman) Opfer. He married Darlene June Lotz on Aug. 6, 1955.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Men's Club in rural Shobonier. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. Edward was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife; son, Craig Opfer (Amy Reeter) of rural Shobonier; daughter, Connie Feather (husband David) of Patoka; grandchildren, Jonathan Feather (friend Ami), Jason Opfer (wife Tessa), and Nicole Doehring (husband Blake); great-grandchildren, Cade and Ben Opfer, and Jackson and Luke Doehring; brother, James Opfer (wife Judy); and sister, Elaine Lange.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris White; brother-in-law, Loren Lange; and beloved grandson, Nick Feather.
