Edwin G. Themig, 88, of Vandalia, passed away at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, at Altamont Lutheran Care Center.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Mother of Dolors Catholic Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Barry Harmon officiating. Burial will be in Mother of Dolors Catholic Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the church, with a rosary at 8:45 a.m. Memorials: Mother of Dolors Catholic Church, Second Chance Animal Rescue or Altamont Lutheran Care Center. Mr. Themig was born on March 21, 1928, in Garretson, S.D., the son of Edward and Jennie DeRue Themig. He married Lela M. Gulbranson on Dec. 28, 1948.
Ed was the oil movement manager for ChiCap Pipeline. He was a member of Mother of Dolors Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both in Vandalia; he served on the Vandalia City Council for 16 years; and he was part of the Cursillos movement.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Jim (Rita) Themig of Niantic, Conn., Mike (Debby) Themig of Vandalia, Pat (Jamie) Themig of Albuquerque, N.M., Dan (Karen) Themig of Calgary, Canada, Jerome (Joanie) Themig of Jacksonville, and Mark (Brad) Themig of Helsberg, Calif.; daughters, Sue (Charlie) Williams of Collinsville, JoEllen (Mike) Wehrle of Vandalia, and Jeanne (Kevin) McDonald of Ft. Collins, Colo.; 25 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lois Valen of Woodbury, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Virginia Gunderson.
