Erna Fae Koontz, 83, of St. Elmo, passed away at 9:10 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2017, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday at C&A Pagel Funeral Home in St. Elmo, with PeeWee Denton officiating, with a one-hour viewing prior to the services. Burial was in Sidener Cemetery in St. Elmo. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials: Donor's choice. Online condolences can be expressed at
Mrs. Koontz was born on Dec. 8, 1933, in St. Elmo, the daughter of Cline F. and Thelma B. (Fulton) Dunbar. She married Charlie Koontz on Feb. 14, 1952, at First Baptist Church in St. Elmo.
Erna played the piano and organ at First Baptist Church in St. Elmo for many years. She was a member of the St. Elmo Woman's Club, Home and Community Education and New Beginnings Church in Effingham. She loved to bake cookies and spend time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband; sons, David Koontz and his wife Penny of St. Elmo, and Dan Koontz of St. Elmo; three grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
