Harold S. Rubin, 94, of Centralia, passed away at 2:40 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, at Fireside House in Centralia.
Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Rubin will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia, with the Rev. Mark Girardin officiating. Interment will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Augsburg. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the church. Memorials: Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia. Mr. Rubin was born on Feb. 16, 1924 on the family farm in Augsburg, the son of Carl Fredrick "Pat" and Linda Louise (Torbeck) Rubin. He married Arlene Anna Sasse on Feb. 13, 1944 in Augsburg; she preceded him in death on Nov. 5, 2013.
Mr. Rubin was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia, where he was an usher and money counter. He enjoyed woodworking and traveling with his family within the United States. He took great pleasure in collecting, working on and selling bicycles. Mr. Rubin liked his new cars, first his Cadillacs and then his Lincolns. He cherished the time he spent with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren, brothers and sisters.
Mr. Rubin owned and operated restaurants with his wife for 20 years. He lived in Centralia, and he moved around with his wife with their different restaurants in the Southern Illinois area. Upon his retirement, Mr. Rubin moved back to Centralia in 1984.
Mr. Rubin is survived by his daughter, Mae Kalert and husband Louis of Centralia; grandchildren, Brent Wolff and wife Deborah of Granger, Ind., Misty Hack and husband Ron of Vernon, Lee Wolff and wife Kari of McKinney, Texas, Jimmy Kalert and wife Mary of Carbondale, Lauren Cook and husband Steve of Pullman, Mich., and Alex Rubin and fiancée Amanda Bush of Dublin, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Justin Hack and wife Kerri, Shannon Hack, Elizabeth Wolff, Macey Kalert, Kristyn Kalert and Kailey Wolff; great-great-grandchildren, Greyson Hack, Arian Rupert and Lianna Rupert; brother, Melvin Rubin of Decatur; sister-in-law, Lorraine Sasse of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his loving wife of 69 years, Mr. Rubin was preceded in death by his parents; son, Don Rubin; daughter-in-law, Carol Rubin; infant brother, Raymond Rubin and sister, Elvera Koch.
