Herbert Dennis Hinrichs, 72, of Decatur, formerly of Vandalia, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home in Decatur, with a "Flight Home" ceremony to conclude the services. The family requests casual attire. Burial with military honors will be in Point Pleasant Cemetery in Long Creek. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials: Wounded Warrior Project. Mr. Hinrichs was born on Dec. 3, 1944, in Vandalia, the son of Herbert C. and Robert (Moeller) Hinrichs. He married Susan Stone on Oct. 15, 1993, and they shared more than 37 years together.
Dennis proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He retired from Firestone after more than 40 years of service. He enjoyed Ford Mustangs, all sports, bowling and NASCAR, especially Matt Kenseth.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Alissa (Christopher) Henkel of Decatur; grandchildren, Gabriella and Cordelia Henkel of Decatur; sister-in-law, Heidi Hinrichs of Decatur; niece, Kristi Stone (Melissa) of Decatur; great-niece, Maddi Stone-McClunney; and many special cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wayne Hinrichs; and beloved dogs, Fizz and Cubby.
