John E. "Jack" Mars, 78, of Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Vandalia, died suddenly on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at a hospital in Tulsa.
Visitation and prayer service was held Jan. 2 in Tulsa and services were on Jan. 3. Memorials: Our Sorrowful Mother's Ministry, 318 N. Eighth St., Vandalia, Ill. 62471; or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Mr. Mars was born on June 3, 1935, in Akron, Ohio, the son of John and Genevieve Mars. He married Betty Ashton.
He moved to Vandalia from Downers Grove in 1974 to be plant manager at Crane Packing. In 1977, he moved his family to Tulsa, Okla., to be vice president of Unarco Rubber Products, and he later started his own company, Rubber Tech, where he worked until he retired in 2008 to enjoy life and his family. He was a member of Mother of Dolors Catholic Church while living in Vandalia.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Beth Conrad of Holt, Texas, and Pam and her husband John Vogt, Kate and her fiancé Alvin, Martha, and Jane and her husband David Penuel, all of Tulsa, Okla.; sons, Mike of Vandalia, John and his wife Sherri of Tulsa, Rob and his wife Pam of Olate, Kan., and Mark of Colleyville, Texas; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ann Kyle and Jean and her husband Hank Schrader; and his beloved dog, Bo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Matthew Conrad; daughter-in-law, Chris Mars; nephew, David Schrader; and in-laws, Charles and Elizabeth Ashton.
