Josephine Black, 86, of Fillmore, passed away at 5:20 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, at Vandalia Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Bethel Baptist Church in rural Vandalia. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery in Mulberry Grove. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday at Allen & Sutton Funeral Home in Fillmore. Memorials: Liberty Church in Bingham. Online condolences can be expressed at
Josephine was born on June 16, 1931, in Hillsboro, the daughter of Dossie and Bertha (Elam) Roe.
She was the owner of Jo's Bingham Store in Bingham and was a cook at several other local restaurants. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in rural Vandalia and often attended Liberty Church in Bingham.
She is survived by sons, Chester (Saundra) Stoneburner of Fillmore, and Roy (Suzanne) Stoneburner of Godley, Texas; daughter, Janet (Vaughn) Voelker of Altamont; grandchildren, Crystal (Trent) Shellabarger, Bob Stoneburner, Jennifer Carlock, Bill Stoneburner (special friend Alyssa), Jessica Stoneburner (special friend Josh), Shae (Frankie) Jones, Jodi Stoneburner, Clayton Stoneburner, Kasi Brown, Kayla Brown and Brett Bell; great-grandchildren, Brody, Emma, Lily, Nora, Hannah W., Hannah H., Ransom, Gage, Hunter and Hailee; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Kathy Stoneburner; a sister, Bonnita (Alvin) Whitten; and a brother, Maurice (Betty) Roe.
