Rea Olyve Evans, 95, of Vandalia, died on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia, with the Revs. Peter Kolb and Jerry Bagwell officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday and one hour prior to services on Tuesday, both at the church. Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Evans was born on April 3, 1918, in O'Fallon, the daughter of Fredrick O. and Oleeta Rea Leidel. She married Charles "Warren" Evans Sr. on March 30, 1955, in Belleville; he died on Dec. 30, 1999.
She was a homemaker, and she also owned and operated fabric shops in Taylorville, Pana and Vandalia. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Crawford-Hale American Legion Unit 95 Auxiliary, 8&40, Vandalia Woman's Club and Vandalia Unit of Fayette County Home and Community Education.
She is survived by a son, Walter "Walt" Evans and his wife Tina of Vandalia; daughter, Tanja Rea Evans Ervin of Vandalia; daughter-in-law, Mary Evans of Vandalia; sister, Patricia Mayfield of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Beth "Mari" and her husband Mike Gilford of Pineville, La., Charles "Chuck" Evans and his wife Robin; Stephanie and her husband of Ramsey, Greg Evans of Vandalia, Jeremy Easton of Longmont, Colo., Jason Easton and his wife Becky of Chatham; great-grandchildren, Jaden Evans, Mark Gilford, Steve Gilford, Emily Evans, Jace Thomas and Ayla Evans; and stepgrandchildren, Asa "A.J." Thomas and Carson Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Charles Evans Jr. and Brad Lee Evans; daughter, Rae Ella Evans; brother, William Leidel; and sisters, Leeta Leidel and Charmion Mahl.
