Reabert Elder, 85, of Vandalia, passed away at 5:07 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Graveside services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday at McInturff Cemetery in Hagarstown, with the Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating. Visitation was held from 9-11 a.m. on Monday at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia. Memorials: Second Chance Animal Rescue or VFW Post 3862, both of Vandalia. Online condolences may be shared at
Mrs. Elder was born on June 16, 1927, in rural Shobonier, the daughter of William and Mary Augustine Diveley. She married her best friend, Alva L. Elder, on Jan. 31, 1946, in Vandalia; he preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 2012.
She was a loving mother and homemaker, and she worked at the family produce stand.
She was survived by her sons, Harry Ellsworth of Pocahontas, Eugene Elder of Vandalia, Danny Elder of Lemont, Randy Elder of Vandalia and Michael Elder of Vandalia; daughters, Jeanene Lener of Plainfield and Carmen Elder of Vandalia; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, David and Stevie Elder; four brothers; and five sisters.
