Robert Lee "Bob" Cramer (1919 - 2013)


Robert "Bob" Lee Cramer, 93, of Normal died at 12:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at Heritage Health in Normal.
Services will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington, with burial at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Elmwood Cemetery in Greenview. Visitation will be held from 5-6 p.m. on Friday at the memorial home. Memorials: First United Methodist Church in Normal, Community Cancer Center in Normal or Heritage Health in Normal. Mr. Cramer was born on Nov. 25, 1919 in Greenview, a son of John G. and Margaret Albrecht Cramer. He married Mary Jean Jones on June 9, 1945, in Vandalia; she passed away on Aug. 11, 2007.
Bob attended Illinois State University in Normal, receiving his bachelor's degree in 1941 and his master's degree in 1952. He was a high school teacher for 17 years, and taught aeronautics, math, chemistry and physics at Danvers and Vandalia High Schools. For 20 years, he taught chemistry and physics at Illinois State University, and developed elementary school science programs, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was active in numerous math, science and educational organizations, including Kappa Mu Epsilon, Kappa Phi Kappa, National Science Teachers Association and American Association of Physics Teachers. Bob served as president of the Lions Club and the Phi Delta Kappa Professional Education Fraternity at ISU.
Bob enjoyed meeting friends for coffee at Target and Eastland Mall, bird watching on his patio and making his famous chicken for family cookouts. He loved his family and was proud of each of them.

Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte and her husband John Douglas of Bloomington; son, Dr. Gregory Cramer and his wife Donna of LaCrosse, Wis.; and grandchildren, Brittany Douglas, Jenna Cramer and David Cramer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fred and Ed Cramer; and two sisters, Louise Hawkins and Eileen Dodd.
