Roy Edward "Edward" Craig, 84, of Vandalia, passed away at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015, at his home.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at First Church of God in Vandalia, with the Rev. Tom Farris officiating. Burial will be in Griffith Cemetery in rural Brownstown, with military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia and VFW Post 9770 of Brownstown. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the church. Memorials: First Church of God, Fayette County Relay for Life or donor's choice. Mr. Craig was born on June 13, 1931, in Brownstown, the son of Roy F. and Barbara A. Porter Craig. He married Frieda M. Durbin on Jan. 20, 1954, in Brownstown; she preceded him in death on May 19, 1996.
He retired from the city of Vandalia Street Department and also worked for Interstate Motors. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of First Church of God, Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 and VFW Post 3862, all of Vandalia; and VFW Post 9770 of Brownstown.
He is survived by his companion of 19 years, Betty Crews of Vandalia; sons, Eddie Craig and his wife Debbie of Moweaqua, and Jack Craig and his wife Brenda of South Carolina; daughter, Barbara McDowell of Vandalia; stepdaughters, Linda Fisher of Vandalia, and Barbara and her husband Randy Doggett of Brownstown; sisters, Norma and Lulu Belle; eight grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Diane Huskey; brother, Donald Craig; and sisters, Linda Craig and Betty Gelsinger.
