Columbus, GA- CPT (Ret) Homer H. Haracourt, Jr., 81, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on November 26, 2018 at Piedmont Medical Center.
Born on October 4, 1937 to the late Homer H. Haracourt, Sr. and Doris B. Barnes Haracourt in Dundee, Michigan. Mr. Haracourt made a career with the U.S. Army honorably and faithfully serving his country for 30 years. He graduated Officer Candidate School at Ft Benning Ga., served three tours of duty in Vietnam, two with Special Forces, and was an instructor for the Airborne & Pathfinder schools. His decorations and medals are many to include two Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, 4 Overseas Service Bars, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and many more. Upon his retirement from the U.S. Army he continued to work with the Civil Service at Fort Benning. Mr. Haracourt enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and hunting being two of his passions. He also enjoyed woodworking when he had the opportunity. Mr. Haracourt was involved with the Recreational and Morale Support Services at Fort Benning especially at the Uchee Creek Campgrounds. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Margarete K. Haracourt and two daughters, Petra Leiber and Sue Anne Haracourt. He leaves his legacy and loving memory to be cherished by his children: Hans (Valery) Haracourt, Rose Anne (Stephen) Cagle, Doris Thornell, Victoria Vigil, William (Leisha) Haracourt, Mary Anne (Scott) Gaines, Siglinda West; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.
His family will visit with friends on Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus, Georgia. A funeral service to honor Mr. Haracourt will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 12 Noon in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus, Georgia. Burial will follow to Main Post Cemetery with Military Honors.
