Herman Johnson Obituary

Herman L. Johnson Sr. September 24, 1938- December 10, 2007 COLUMBUS, GA— SFC (Ret) Herman L. Johnson Sr. died Monday, December 10, 2007 at Columbus Hospice. He was 69 years old and resided at 1067 Bedford Avenue, Columbus, GA. He was born to the late Chester Johnson Sr. and Leona Johnson in Bertrandville, LA. on September 24, 1938. He was baptized at an early age at St. Benedict The Moor Catholic Church in Bertrandville, LA. He was a twenty three year veteran of the Unites States Army and a Vietnam veteran. He was also retired from civil service at Martin Army Community Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, Laverne Dennis, Aurelia Lee and three brothers, Bernard Johnson, Raymond Johnson and Chester Johnson Jr. and one son, Reginald Holloway-Johnson. Surviving him is a devoted wife of forty five years, Mrs. Beatrice A. Johnson; two sons, SFC (Ret) Bruce A. Johnson Sr. (Jennifer) of Columbus, GA. and Major Herman L. Johnson Jr. (Latanya) of Fayetteville, NC.; two daughters, Mrs. Patrice M. Leeks (Willie) of Columbus, GA. and Andrea M. Johnson of Columbus, GA.; ten grandchildren, SPC Bruce A. Johnson Jr. of Leesville, LA., and Brandyce Johnson of Columbus, GA., whom he raised, Jennifer Leeks, Jamika Leeks, Jasmine Leeks, Brianna Johnson, and David Howard, all of Columbus, GA., Brittany Johnson of Tacoma, WA., Dmitri and Emery Johnson of Fayetteville, NC.; great grandsons, Devin Johnson and Fredrick Herriel III of Columbus, GA. and Bruce A. Johnson III of New Orleans, LA.; two brothers, George Johnson (Barbara) of LA and Benedict Johnson of Charleston, SC.; four sisters, MaryLouise Patterson, Almatine Blame, Beverly Buggage (Leonard) and Crystal Dennis (Donald), all of LA.; five sisters in law, Ida Mae Berryhill, Vera Mae Jackson (Arthur), Betty Ann Wilson (Sterling), Betty Jean Ausbrooks, all of LA. and Annabelle Harris of LaGrange, GA.; one brother in law, Daniel Ausbrooks and Herman Dennis, both of LA., and special friend, SFC (Ret) Daniel A. Cobb. Also surviving him are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 15, 2007 at St. Benedict the Moor Church at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12 until 7 p.m. today. SFC (Ret) Johnson will be laid to rest at Fort Benning Main Post Cemetery on Monday, December 17, 2007 at 1 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to J.W. Jones Funeral Home, Inc. in Columbus, GA.
