Robert Lawrence Obituary

Robert James Lawrence April 5, 1916 - November 2, 2008 COLUMBUS, GA — Robert James Lawrence, age 92, died on Sunday, November 2, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum at Park Hill Cemetery with Dr. Hal Brady officiating. Bob was born April 5, 1916 in Birmingham, AL, the son of late William Joseph Lawrence and Clara Kelly Lawrence. He served in World War II as a railroad conductor carrying troops and materials for General George Patton.  After the war, Bob worked thirty years for Liberty National Life Insurance Company, from which he later retired. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and the Shaw Sunday School class.  Bob is pre-deceased by his first wife, Marjorie Eason Lawrence. He is survived by his wife Mary; three children, Judith Lawrence Edwards and her husband Ronald of Columbus, GA, Michael Robert Lawrence and his wife Kim of Charlotte, NC, and Sheri Lawrence Thompson and her husband Bill of Latta, SC; seven grandchildren, Mollie Smith and Sarah Beth Morton, both of Columbus, GA, Michael Lawrence and Whitney Lawrence, both of Chanute, KS, Carson Kirby and her husband John of Asheboro, NC, Ridge Harper and his wife Jenny of St. Mary's, GA, and Casey Thompson of Latta, SC; and six great-grandchildren. The family will visit with friends after the service in the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, the Shaw Sunday School class, or the charity of your choice.
