Veola Nelms April 6, 1922 - June 5, 2010 COLUMBUS, GA— Ms. Veola Nelms of 3527 Surrey Lane, Columbus passed Saturday at her home surrounded by her beloved daughter Marcia. She was 88 years old. Born in Salem, Alabama on April 6, 1922, Ms. Nelms was the daughter of the late Alf and Laura Stephens Nelms. She was retired from Swift Mills after 28 years of service and was a member of Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church where she served with the Mission, Senior Citizens Club and Sunday School. She was preceded in death by a son, Otis Nelms, a grandson, Otis, Jr., a granddaughter, Felicia Wright; and eleven siblings. Survivors include: two sons, Joe Nathan Cochran (Curvie) and John "Bobby" W. Baker (Evelyn); one daughter, Marcia Ann Nelms; three granddaughters, Cynthia Nelms, Marketia and Sharika White; a daughter Ðin-law, Rosie Floyd; two sisters-in-law, Rebecca Nelms and Bessie Nelms; special niece and nephew, Sheila Abbott and Sam Abbott and Adia Abbott; a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Homegoing Services for Ms. Nelms will be Saturday, 1:00 p.m. at Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend J. H. Flakes, pastor officiating. The Interment will follow in Green Acres Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, 2 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The cortege will depart from the residence at 12:30 the day of the service.
