I lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana where the Daisies played at Memorial Park. I lived 5 blocks from the park so I went to every game. Dottie was one of my many inspirations to long for a future in baseball. I was 13 when I finally could join the Future Daisies League. Those were the best days of my life as I am sure they were for all. I still grieve the passing of Dottie and all the players that are slowly leaving us. I am 74 now and she remains in my heart along with so many other AAGBL players. How lucky I was to be a part of it even if my dream didn't come true...to be one of those amazing players.

To all baseball fans!
Just over 2 years ago we lost a huge part of history in baseball......the death of Dottie Kamenshek! The movie "League of their own" was based on true stories of the gals of "The AAGPBL!" That movie is one of my favorites! Cannot believe it is celebrating its 20th anniversary!
I lived in Rockford from 1989 until moving to Janesville in 1997. I have alot of memories of Rockford baseball but especially meeting alot of the gals that came through on their 50th anniversary in Rockford!!!!! May their legacy live on and on!
An avid baseball fan!

I HAD TO GO AWAY
I had to go away.
I'm sorry you couldn't come with me.
But on earth is where you shall stay.
Please do not be sad.
Instead laugh and be glad.
I'm in a beautiful place, such a beautiful place.
I know you wont see me for a while.
But you will hear from me.
I will be the wind that will chill you on a hot summer day.
I will be the sun that will warm you when it's cold.
Listen to the birds sing, I will be saying, "I love you" in their song.
I know you can't touch me.
But you will feel me.
Because I will be inside of you giving you life on the days you feel like you can't go on anymore.
Please I beg of you, go on, live your life as I lived mine.
Always remember we will be together again.
I will be patiently waiting for you on that day.
When you will join me in this beautiful place.
Until then may God bless you with his almighty grace.

What in inspiration to millions of young ladies across the country (including myself). I am so glad Dottie and the rest of the AAGPBL were honored with the movie, A League; and were immortalized in baseball history at the National Baseball Hall of Fame. May you rest in peace in baseball heaven Dottie. God bless you and your family. Thanks for the inspiration and memories, from a fellow baseball player and fan.

Though I did not personally know Dorothy Kamenshak, I saw the movie that her life served as inspiration for. If it came anywhere close to portraying what she was like in real life, she was impressive. I felt moved by the film to push myself to achieve things I first felt were unattainable. I thank her for that. I extend my sincere condolences to the family and friends who knew her well. Though experiencing grief, may you take comfort in knowing she suffers no pain and there is an assured hope of seeing her again. Our Lord, Jesus Christ, promised: “the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth” (John 5:28, 29). May memories of happy times spent with your loved one help ease the pain until you are blessed with seeing her again.

To the Kamenshek Family,
I’m truly sorry for the loss of an inspiring woman. She was a pioneer for women everywhere to strive for excellence in whatever they do. Dorothy's physical prowess and abilities helped to change men’s attitudes toward women’s capabilities, a remarkable achievement for her day and ours. But as much as we can achieve on our own we still require God to help us make it through terrible times like these. And so I urge you to go to him in prayer to help and comfort you with the hope brought out at (1 Peter 1:3) “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for according to his great mercy he gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” Again I’m truly saddened to hear of Dorothy’s death…you are in my prayers.

To the Family, Friends and Teammates of "Kammie",
Our hearfelt sympathies are with you. We feel like we know "Kammie" so well because our daughter Sarah did her biography project on her about 1 month ago. Sarah did a tremendous amount of research on Kammie and the AAGPBL. She wrote a report and then dressed up as Kammie on the day she delivered her report. Her uniform was handmade and an exact replica. Sarah was inspired to do this after seeing "A League of Their Own." Our family's respect for Dorothy grew after researching her lifestory. May she rest in peace.

I know what a mark she leaves on Baseball. I have never understood why women are not playing Baseball today. I know she will be missed. But I know she wouldn`t trade places with any of us left on earth. Love the role that was put in place in her name. Thanks for educating the younger generation. I was born the year after Dottie quit playing.

To the Family, Friends and Teammates of Ms. Kamenshek,
I was just told by my mom of her passing. I totally fell in love with the inspirational movie "A League of Their Own" and of the "Ladies of Baseball". I was also told that my grandfather went to see these exceptional ladies play in Rockford. I know that my next trip to Rockford will bring me to the Stadium. She will be missed by many and all! Guess it is now time to get the movie so that I can watch it with my young children and tell them of the history. My GOD bless her and those she has left behind. Now "Let's play some Heavenly BALL....."
In Deepest Sympathies,

However, also a wonderful time to reflect on the many happy memory’s that was shared with Dorothy. I truly enjoyed the movie but more than that, the very idea of women showing a side of themselves that was rarely seen back in that day. I like it when people do something out of the ordinary--not for attention but just because they can. And not only that but the fact that they do it well speaks volumes if anyone is willing to look outside the box and read.

Please accept my sincere condolences on the death of your loved one, 'Dottie'. What a beautiful talent she was! I remember when I purchased the video years ago, I was captivated by the title of the movie: "A League of Their Own". What is that about?, I wondered. Then I watched the movie. What an inspiration! I'd never heard of Dottie and the other girls of the All American Woman's Baseball Team, but after watching that movie, I'll never forget them, but more importantly, Dottie will not be forgotten by our Heavenly Father. He assures us that he will destroy death and 'wipe out all tears (of sorrow) from our eyes'. (1Corinthians 15:26, Isaiah 25:8) Resurrection of millions, including Dottie, will be the work of God's hands as he restores to life all those who are sleeping in his memory. (Revelation 21:4, John 5:28,29). May these future blessings bring you comfort now knowing that God will do all that he has promised (Titus 1:2) My deepest sympathy to you.

Kammie became one of my most memorable All-Americans when I began researching the history of the All-American Girls Base Ball League (AAGBBL, 1943-1954) in 1971 because of her incomparable skills on the field. It would be 33 years later before I actually met her and came to realize what an incomparable person she was.
I'd read about and studied reports of her exceptional abilities as a baseball player, but when I met her, I found the manifestation of her exceptional baseball skills was just the tip of the iceberg of the exceptional character of the exceptional person behind those skills. Throughout her life, she was in the top 99.9% of the best this country has to offer.
I count myself blessed to have made her acquaintance and to be continually inspired by all she accomplished and all she was.

I am truly sorry for your loss. It is never easy to let go of the people you love. I would also like to say that this group of women always amazed me. I remember watching the movie when I was just a child. All I could sit and think about was the fact that during such a horrible time in our history these women held it together and accomplished something amazing. They were extraordinary women who paved the way for other women athletes and brought many smiles to a shaken nation. My thoughts and prayer are with the family, friends and fans. God Bless all of you and all of these extraordinary women.

Many of you might not know, that in 1952, after my automobile accident in Rockford, Dottie invited me to stay with her during my two months of therapy. If the team was on the "road", she made sure someone would take me to the hospital. Being invited to "card shows" with the Legendary Ladies was an honor for me. As I continue to do these shows, so many people ask about Dottie, Marge, Pepper and Lefty. Baseball fans who knew these women will be sadden to hear of Dottie's passing. I'm Greatful for the gift of Friendship. Bob and I will miss you Dottie. Dolly Konwinski Grand Rapids Chicks.

As an associate member of the AAGPBL-PA, I am very proud that Kammie was my friend. I never saw her play, but heard all about her amazing talent from many, many people...but never from Kammie herself, of course.
I cherish the memories of sitting with Kammie and Marge at reunions talking about and laughing at nothing in particular.
The three of us also had many enjoyable phone conversations, which inevitably involved complaints about their team, the Angels, and my team, the Cubs!
I'll miss you Kammie, and I will never, never forget you. I love you.
