SEGAL GERALD "JERRY" S. age 79, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2020 at his home in Blue Bell, PA surrounded by family. Beloved husband of 57 years to Carolyn (nee Cohen). Loving father of Traci (Stephen) Ernst and Marci Sachs. Proud Poppop of Zac, Jake, Allie and Lily Ernst and Ben Sachs. Brother of Selma Glanzberg-Krestal and Rhoda Hasson. Jerry is also remembered lovingly by nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Jerry was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia. He grew up in Wynnefield, graduated from Overbrook High School, Drexel University and Temple University School of Law. As a young trial lawyer, Jerry started a small law firm which has grown into Segal, Berk, Gaines & Liss. He supported many Democratic politicians and enjoyed talking about his days working on their campaigns. Jerry served on the boards of many notable Philadelphia organizations such as Independence Blue Cross, Abramson Center, Historic Philadelphia, Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, The Mayor's Commission on People with Disabilities, and The Governor's Cabinet & Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities. Jerry was also appointed to serve as a member of the President's National Council on Disabilities by President Bill Clinton. Jerry was driven and successful in his professional life and he embraced that same tenacity when working on his greatest love, helping others. Jerry was an active member of many philanthropic organizations and anyone who knew him benefitted from his passion. After unsuccessful neck surgery in 1988 left Jerry paralyzed, he never gave up and against all odds learned to walk again as a patient at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. Jerry was inspired by his time at Magee and wanted to give back to help future patients. He combined his love for golf with his passion for helping others and thus, the first Jerry Segal Classic was held in 1990. The Classic is Magee's largest fund-raising event, and over the past 30 years, the annual golf outing has raised more than $20 Million for the patients at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. As the ultimate optimist, Jerry lived by the motto that "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade;" and he instilled that belief in all of those around him. Some of his happiest moments were spent inspiring patients at Magee to overcome adversity and to believe in a way back. He conquered many physical battles, and never allowed them to keep him from being the best husband, father, Poppop, sibling, and friend. He will always be remembered for his kindness and perseverance. A graveside service will take place at Montefiore Cemetery on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. In Jerry's memory, please consider supporting The Jerry Segal Classic, benefitting Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, 1513 Race Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102.

Jerry was a great friend to many, myself included. He was a source of
joy when we saw him at class reunions. I am holding a picture of our kindergarten class from Mann school in 1947. He was a cute little boy!

Five years ago when we moved into our new home in Boca, our next door neighbor wheeled up with Boo to the front door in his wheelchair and welcomed us to the neighborhood. Since then, we have had the good fortune to become close friends with Jerry and Carolyn and to be inspired by Jerry's amazing "larger than life" persona, his inspiring ability to overcome adversity with a smile and humor, his generosity towards others in need and to also be inspired by the loving marriage that Jerry and Carolyn shared. But for COVID considerations we would be at the funeral to say our goodbyes to Jerry. Jerry deserves the eternal peace he now has and we pray that Carolyn and the family will get through these sad days with remembrances of Jerry's smile, his bravery, his love of his family, and all the good that he did with the time he had on earth-- a true example for us all.

Jerry was truly an inspiration to the patients of Magee Rehab! He will be missed but never forgotten! When my husband was a patient @ Magee recovering from a complicated transplant surgery Jerrys name was everywhere. The building was covered with medical equipment donated by Jerry Segal. One day a man independently rolled into the gym in his WC. He unassumingly greeted the patients & staff, Everyone seemed to know him. Wed see him often always friendly with a huge smile across his face. It was on a particularly difficult day that Jerry visited the gym and began a dialogue with my husband Gary. His words of encouragement were inspiring. When we asked his name he just said Jerry. I watched his interaction with my husband and the other patients. Patients, families & staff often become connected and supportive to each other as they work in the gym together everyday but Jerry he was a very special human being. One day I asked the staff if Jerry was a patient @ Magee. I was told he was a previous patient, a friend and member of the Magee Family. It was then that we connected Jerry with the name Jerry Segal . The next time Jerry visited we thanked him for his dedication and contributions to the patients of Magee. Jerry shared his entire story leaving us both inspired and full of hope! Jerry is still in our thoughts 4 years later and will always be remembered as a voice of hope and encouragement in our Journey

Gerry was a huge help to us after our son, Ben, was injured in a motorcycle accident and facilitated his admission to Magee Rehabilitation. We have been supporters of his fund raising ever since for many years. He and daughter Tracey were/are dear friends of my daughter Janet and son-in-law Marc for many years. He will be missed, We will continue to honor his memory by supporting the fund raising he established for Magee and offer our sympathy to ALL of his family and friends Bob and Marian Slater

We have known Gerry for many years - Mel since kindergarten (70 years and Dorothy once we started dating and got married (60 years) - at which Gerry was an usher. Gerry from childhood at was driven to succeed at whatever he participated in . He had an Indomitable spirit - he had within him the strength, hope and courage to get up and face
each day with a smile. Gerry gave a lot of himself to make everyone's life easier - his work at McGee is a great example of what he was all about. d
Dorothy and I and I know many people are saddened for our loss today. Our heartfelt condolences go to Carolyn and their family and to Rhoda and Selma and their families for their personal and profound loss. I spent many happy days sharing good times at 5335 Berks street with Gerry, Rhoda, Selma and with Jeane and Bennie. With Much Love from Dorothy and I
