Jerry Boyd Obituary

HASTINGS - Jerry Michael Boyd, 70, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at his home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be in the Parkview Cemetery, Hastings.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center and one hour prior to rosary Friday, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. There will be a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church.

Mr. Boyd was born Aug. 6, 1940, in Hastings to Frank C. and Jane (Murphy) Boyd.

He was preceded in death by a son, Steve Boyd.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Pauline "Blue" Boyd of Hastings; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and John Fallick of Lincoln; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Dana Boyd of Hastings; a daughter-in-law, Heidy Boyd of Lincoln; and a sister, Jean Boyd Shea of Hastings.

Additional survivors include grandchildren, Mitchell Boyd, Eliza Fallick, Mariah Fallick, Derek Boyd, Jordyn Fallick, Blane Boyd, Easton Boyd, Payton Fallick.

While living in Hastings Jerry attended St. Cecilia Catholic School. Jerry was seven when he and his parents moved to Wichita, Kan. He graduated from Wichita Catholic High School, and then received a degree from St. Benedict's College in Atchison, Kan., where he also was a member of the basketball team.

His first employment was with Tenneco Oil Company traveling through southern states. His territory included Yazoo City, Miss., where he met and married Pauline "Blue" Darrington. Next they moved to Denver, where their three children were born. His next transfer took the family to Marietta, Ga. In 1977, they returned to Hastings where he joined his brother, Frank and nephew. Bill Boyd as they had won one of the ten "West of the Rockies" distribution centers in Nebraska for Coors Brewing Company. That single operation named Coors of Hastings has grown to encompass the Nebraskaland Distributors Company covering the tri-city area of which Jerry was a managing partner.

Jerry was "the rock of Gibraltar" to his family and friends; always kind, gentle, caring, and fixing everything. Jerry loved his family, his work, his golf, his buddies, and faith in God.

He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. His civic and fraternal associations include: past President for Lochland Country Club and past President of United Way; was a member of Rotary Club, HEDC, Heritage Bank Board, and Knights of Columbus. Treasurer of Nebraska Beer Wholesales Assoc. and various community activities.

Jerry was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank Boyd, sister-in-law, Norma Boyd, and brother-in-law, Jack Shea.

Memorials may be given to the Catholic Social Services.
