Marvin was born July 22, 1919, in Dexter, Minn., the son of William and Edith (Nichols) Hall. He was a 1937 graduate of the Nashua High School. Marvin was inducted into the United States Army on Nov. 3, 1943, and served as a pilot of a C-47. He was honorably discharged on July 23, 1945.
On May 3, 1946, at the First Congregational Church in Nashua, he married Norma Sours of Marble Rock. Marvin worked for a short time at Oliver in Charles City and John Deere in Waterloo before he began to live his dream of trapping.
Since beginning trapping at the early age of eight, Marvin would trap fox and mink in the fall, beaver in the winter and then in the spring and summer switch to fishing commercially on the Mississippi River near Lansing and Harpers Ferry. Along with fishing, he would catch clams and sell the shells to Japan. In the fall, between seasons, he hunted ginseng and sold it internationally. Bud was one of just a few living men inducted into the trappers hall of fame.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Norma; four daughters, Sara Hanson of Bellingham, Wash., Sandy (Bill) Stanley of Waverly, Sue (Mike) Sinnwell of Belmond, and Peggy (Lonnie) Litchfield of Washington, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Chad Sinnwell, Sherry Haupt, Mark Stanley, Maggie Sinnwell, Kim Cox, Chelsie Litchfield and Chase Litchfield; two sisters, Judith Schmidt of Cedar Rapids and Verna Kueker of Tripoli.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lee Hall; and a half-brother, Howard Hall.
