In 1971, she married Abscena Hunter and relocated to Washington DC, where she developed her love of cooking. This union produced three beautiful daughters, Dechanta Hunter, mother of Antione and Mariah; LaTasha Hunter, mother of Jaymison; and Jamice Hunter, mother of Kashmere.

In 1989, Mildred married Charles Byrd, a trustee at First Baptist Church of Marshall Heights in Washington, DC. She graciously joined her husband as a member of the congregation.

She is preceded in death by husband, Charles; three brothers, Otis, Arthur, and Wilbert Harvey.

Her family and friends will always remember her as an excellent cook, who made the best sweet potato, coconut, and pecan pies.
