Robert Kindervater Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Feb. 19 to Feb. 22, 2009.
KINDERVATER, Robert A. Sr. "Bob," of Richmond, died February 17, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mae Kindervater. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy; his children, Robert Andrew Kindervater Jr. and his wife, Susan and Gayle Parrish and her husband, Brian; his grandchildren, Michael and Megan Parrish and Ashley Kindervater; his twin brother, William E. Kindervater and his wife, Linda; his sister, Helen Roberts; his aunt, Irene Matthews; and nieces and nephews. Bob proudly served in the United States Army 529th Military Police Company in Heidelberg, Germany and the 529th Honor Guard and, for the last several years, enjoyed yearly reunions with his army buddies. He was a brick mason and a carpenter, retiring in 2002. Both before and after retirement, Bob was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends, and for many years operated his own taxidermy business. Bob was a true teacher, who loved to share his knowledge of his many trades and hobbies with all who came into contact with him. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was very active with The Tuckahoe Square Dance Club, where he and Nancy danced with their many close friends for a number of years. A memorial service with full military honors will be held Monday, February 23, 2009 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Avenue, at 1 p.m., with a reception immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Trinity UMC Capital Campaign in memory of Bob Kindervater. Arrangements by the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street Road, Glen Allen, Va. 23060.

Nancy and Family:
I was so sorry to hear about Bob. I remember the days we would play golf and come home to a home cooked meal by Bob. I also recall the day he came over and repaired my steps and I must say the job was perfect.

Bob - I wish I had the words that would provide you peace. I will always remember the tales you shared of the adventures you enjoyed with your Dad. He was truly more than a father; he was a good friend, a steady hand, and a comfort to you. You just always knew, no matter what happened, he was on your side. May you find comfort that his suffering is over, even though I know you will miss him very much.

Nancy, you and your family are in our prayers. God's word has always brought comfort to me. Rev:21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Although I did not know Bob as well as I did Nancy, I can relate to the sadness one has in a loved one's absence.
May God in His omnipotent way give each of you the strength that comes from the knowledge of the Peace of the Resurrection.

HELLO FOLKS,
IN YOUR BEREAVEMENT, ALLOW ME TO INJECT A BIT OF HISTORY THAT SOME OLDSTERS OF KIN MIGHT RELATE TO. --
MY PRESENT AGE IS 88 YEARS OLD. I WORKED FOR HIS FATHER, BILL KINDEVATER FOR A LONG TIME AS HIS HELPER ON A VIRGINIA DAIRY MILK TRUCK. HIS ROUTE WAS ON CHURCH HILL. IN FACT IT WAS ON HIS MILK ROUTE THAT HE MET HIS WIFE, MAE. BILL HAD A RELATINE WHO ALSO HAD A MILK ROUTE AT THE DAIRY. HIS LAST NAME WAS UPDIKE. I STAYED AT THAT DAIRY FOR 20 YEARS, THEN MOVED TO FLORIDA.
WHEN READING THE WONDERFUL THINGS SAID ABOUT HIS SON, IT WAS LIKE AS IF IT WAS FOR THE BILL KINDERVATER THAT I SO ADMIRED, & ENJOYED BEING ASSOCIATED WITH. I SEE BILL PASSED HIS WONDERFUL GENES ON TO HIS SONS.

Unfortunately I met Mr. Kindervater under sad circumstance, but I am so glad that I got the chance to know him. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always so much fun to talk to. I looked forward to seeing him at each of his chemo treatments. I admired his relationship with Nancy as she would sit through all his treatments with him and they would hold hands. I will miss seeing him, though I am sure he is in a much better place now. I pray God will comfort his family and friends now, esp. Nancy..... Kimie

A son could not ask for a better father, teacher, or friend. I will forever cherish the memories of the time we spent together in the field, on the water, working on projects together, or just talking. I could never thank you enough for the life lessons and the values you taught me. You were always there for me no mater what the situation I could always count on you to have the answer. I will miss our time together more than words will ever describe. You’re Loving Son Robbie
