As I read through these tributes to Gene Warren, I was not at all surprised to see all the heartfelt comments about what a joy he was to be around and of having been an absolute pleasure and honor to know. I am one of Gene's many cousins, but I don't think I have seen him since we were both in our early teens. When my family visited in those "early years" (maybe once a year), I always looked forward to seeing Gene Warren. He was two years older than I -- at a time in life when two years seemed like quite a lot -- But, not around Gene! With him, everyone felt right in place; at ease. His humor and fun loving spirit will always be remembered and I consider it to be my considerable loss not to have been able to have spent more time with him throughout the years.
Rest in peace, cuz'. You truly will be missed, because fun people are just hard to get along without.
My heartfelt condolences to all the family and close friends, as I know the pain of loss of one so dear. Keep Gene Warren in your hearts and minds and spread his wonderful spirit in all you do.

Gene was light-years ahead of the rest of us in finding the real meaning of life. As the older sister, I grew up thinking that I was the smart one, but as I grew older, I realized that Gene was the wise one. He knew how to live life to the fullest, and he knew how to love people as they are. He understood the importance of God, and love, and family, and forgiveness. No matter what he was going through, he was always there for everyone else. No matter how bad things were, he could make you smile and see the brighter side of life. Gene truly knew how to make heaven on earth. God bless you, Gene. You were a gift to us all. I love you and miss you so much. I know you're in heaven because there has never been a kinder soul than you. I just wish God hadn't needed you with Him so soon. Love, Colly

I really got to know Gene when I was his "little brother" in our high school fraternity. We had many good times togetehr and later, we became "unwed" about the same time, so we called his place on Traway Road (I think that was the road he lived on at that time), "the home for unwed fathers". Man, We had some laughs together! Not sure what I'd done without him. One of the few friends I could laugh, hug, and cry with. I'm still in shock and I know his family is. My heart goes out to you all.

Gene was a good friend of mine in high school ... I played basketball with him on the JV team and he was a fellow member of the Hi-Y. He and I were proud members of the 1971 graduating class of Manchester HS ... Go Lancers!!! Gene was a good person and a funny guy who took a lot of ribbing by his fellow classmates ... but he always had that smile and that good nature no matter what was going on.
