William Aicklen Obituary

AICKLEN William Edward Aicklen, Jr. passed away peacefully on March 8, 2014 after a wonderful life. A native of New Orleans, he was born October 15, 1926. Bill graduated from Warren Eastern High School and received a scholarship to Tulane University, which he attended, earning a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering in 1949. Later he continued his studies and received his master's degree in Electrical Engineering from LSU in '68. Bill was proud of his 27 year career at Waldemar S. Nelson and Company, Inc. He was a member and a past President of the New Orleans Chapter of IEEE and was honored with the Fireman's Award for his service. He was a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Parish. Affectionately known as "Bear" he enjoyed his family, especially during Mardi Gras when he insisted on being in the front row for every parade he could attend. He is preceded in death by his parents William E. Aicklen, Sr. and Inez R. Schutzmann, and his brother Roy F. Aicklen. He will be missed by his beloved wife of 61 years, Doris Kostmayer Aicklen, his three daughters, Lynn Marie Franklin (Jeffrey), Joann Kostmayer Lammons (Richard), and Mary "Mimi" Elizabeth Cleary (Michael), and seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Paul Franklin Jr., John Patrick Franklin, Elizabeth Lynne Franklin, Marie Louise Lammons Holley, Richard Alan Lammons, Jr., Michael William Cleary and Kathryn Marie Cleary. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a gathering at the Parish House of Mater Dolorosa on Wednesday, March 12th from 12:00 to 2:00 followed by a Funeral Mass. Burial services are private. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in his name at the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org.) Funeral services are being handled by Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, www.lakelawnmetairie.com.
