Stanley Koss Obituary

Stanley E. Koss, of W.Yarmouth, died Friday, September 9, 2016, at Cape Cod Hospital after an 8 month illness with osteomyelitis and complications with kidney disease. He was surrounded by his loving family. Stanley was 82 years young and a devoted husband to Patricia (Rusiecki) Koss for 57 years. Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Stanley and Apolonia (Piechota) Koss. He attended Hopewell School and graduated from Taunton High School, class of 1952. He served his country proudly with the U.S. Army in Korea. He owned Koss Market in Whittenton for 35 years and was well known for his homemade kielbasa and sandwiches at lunch time. He was affectionately referred to as The Kielbasa King. Stanley enjoyed visiting Saratoga Race Track with his sons every August as well as Lantana, Florida every winter with his wife Pat. He was an extremely proud Grandpa to his twin grandsons, Nick and Tom. He planted a garden every spring and was proud of his vegetables. He fulfilled his dreams by living on Cape Cod, which he referred to as Gods Country, and traveling to Poland with his wife and grandsons. He loved people; he enjoyed when company stopped by to visit. He would smile and say Isnt this beautiful? He was always the life of the party. He read the Cape Cod Times every day and was a faithful Red Sox and Patriots fan. Stanley was a Board of Directors member and a Lifetime member of the Polish American Citizens Club. He also was a member of the Polish National Alliance, and a Lifetime member of the Taunton Lodge of Elks. He was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Stanley E. Koss Jr. & his wife, Laurie, of Taunton, his son David J. Koss, of West Yarmouth, and his twin grandsons, Nicholas Koss and Thomas Koss, of Taunton. He also leaves his sister, Dolores Kearns, of Taunton, as well as 1 niece and 4 nephews. His presence will be greatly missed by his family and many cherished friends from Taunton and on Cape Cod. Stanleys funeral will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at 9:00 a.m., from the Sowiecki Funeral Home, 69 West Britannia Street, Taunton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., in the Holy Rosary Church, 80 Bay Street, Taunton, to which relatives and friends are invited. Interment with military honors will follow in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Taunton. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., in the funeral home. Stanley and Pat, and Dolores and Jack, were always the most kind hosts when we would visit from NJ with our young children. It was always a wonderful vacation for us and our children to be able to go to Massachusetts for a vacation. Moving to the Midwest did not allow us to make this annual trip and we are sad we could not have remained closer over the years with cousin Stanley. Among the memories we will have will be the kielbasy and the pocketed pork chops we brought home each year after our annual summer visits.

And every summer there was a tradition when we got together with Stanley and Jack. So one last time, Sto lat! Pat, you, David and little Stash are in our prayers.

I first met Stan and Pat when I went to work with Ted Strojny. We became great friends and when my wife Denise and I moved to Florida we continued our friendship visiting every year when Pat and Stan would take their Winter vacation. We will miss him greatly and we extend our deepest sympathy to the entire Koss family.
