John AUERSPERG Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Sep. 22, 2017.
John AUERSPERG January 30 1930 - September 17 2017 On Sunday, at home in Vancouver, our beloved John (Hansl) Auersperg passed into the arms of God. He went to sleep happy and at peace, looking forward, as always, to spending time with his family and friends. John was predeceased by his father Eduard and his mother Sophie (nee Clam Gallas) and many siblings. "Pa" will be lovingly missed by his wife Nelly, his sister Clotilde, his daughter Maria (David), son Edward (Nancy), and grandchildren Anthony, Jamie, Elizabeth, John, Steven, and Natalie, as well as by many others. He experienced the bliss of meeting his great granddaughter, Ada. His love, devotion, and sense of duty, especially to his family, were boundless and unconditional. In his memory, he would like us all to spend even more time with our families. He contributed to the success of the forest industry in B.C., and spent much of his free time helping to build the Friends of Chamber Music Society, and supporting several charities. For as long as he was able, he enjoyed the outdoors in Canada and his previous home, Austria. Despite some serious physical setbacks, he searched for the good in all circumstances, and showed gratitude for it throughout his life. We are all better people for his example. Visitation is at Kearney Funeral Chapel (450 West 2nd Ave, Vancouver) Monday September 25 from 5pm to 7pm. Funeral Mass is at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church (2465 Crown Street, Vancouver) on Tuesday September 26 at 10 am, with a reception to follow at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club from 1pm to 3 pm. A gentleman.

I grew up next door and often watched as Mr. Auersperg arrived home in his Mercedes and proceeded in shirt and tie to greet all the kids playing in his yard. That left an indelible impression on me that survives to this day.

Equally impressive to a youngster, he would often proceed to change into more casual clothes - a sports jacket with suede elbow patches - and start to mow the lawn. The only man I ever knew who dressed formally to tend the garden.

God Bless you and all your wonderful family Mr. Auersperg.

My cousin in law had a rare gift. He quietly commanded respect. Further he brought out the best in everyone around him. He was a natural team leader. His wonderful values will live on on all of us lucky enough to have known him. Peace Hans (John)
