Pina; Shelagh and I send our thoughts and condolences. I'm sorry this note comes to you so late. We just found out.

Your life long partnership was a blueprint of how to raise a family and celebrate life as a couple while running a successful business

Memories of Stan are flooding back. He had a gift for calming any situation and always had time to talk and listen.

I owe him a lot and I will remember him always.

Hello Pina. Matthew, Greg and I wanted to express our feelings of great sympathy and loss for you at the sudden passing of Stan. While we were not old friends we felt a good friendship with Stan and you both there is a gap in our lives. When Matthew stopped by to talk to Stan and was told by the hotel staff Stan had died he was totally shocked and upset. Matthew said to me when he called to tell us about him, that Stan had been his is first friend in Ottawa. He found talking with Stan very helpful, challenging and comfortable. When he would ask me for an idea or an answer to a question I would tell him to ask Stan. He always had an answer, and suggestion and challenging discussion. When I first went down from my room in 2015 hoping to be able to have a late dinner he said of course and had Ellen present me with a menu and a glass of fine Malbec. Such kindness so late at night. Once Greg and Matthew arrived Café Mezzaluna became our breakfast place, a stop to sit down and have a glass of wine at a hightop table and rest my feet in the afternoon and a wonderful place for dinner. When Saturday came around and you were there too the celebration dinners became even more fun. Every visit after became something to look forward to seeing you again. Our thoughts are with you every day of this difficult first year and if you felt like talking to us please know we would very much like to hear from you and know how things are for you. Our e-mail address is still [email protected]. Elizabeth Smith, Matthew and Greg Sinclair, Edmonton AB.

Pina and family,

I am one of the Italian buddies known as Butch who grew up on Preston street with Stan as mentioned in a previous message of condolences from our good friend Tony Lofaro. As Tony mentioned, time does pass us by quickly and yes the group of buddies did grow apart but there were times over the years when we would run into each other and we would carry on as if time had stood still. I had the opportunity to reconnect with Stan on New Year's Eve of 2014. We had dinner at his restaurant before participating in the Sparks street New Year's Eve festivities. Upon our return to the hotel after the festivities which also housed Stan's restaurant, we noticed Stan and his wife sitting at a table with a group of people. Stan being the gentleman that he was, ran out into the lobby and insisted that my wife and I and our friends join them. In retrospect, I am so glad that I did. We sat there until the wee hours of the morning. Chatting on current affairs, reminiscing, laughing and yes sipping on some great wines courtesy of Stan and Pina. We reminisced about the great hide and seek games while growing up as kids, the famous street ball hockey games between the other streets in the neighbourhood....what a rivalry that was, the crazy roller derby games on the snow covered street with snow boots instead of roller skates, those unforgettable excursions on the city buses to go the movies and who can forget the great story telling by Tony Lofaro as we listened attentively while sitting on that laneway half wall at the end of Laurel street. It was so much fun to have had the opportunity to catch up with him after so many years. As Tony mentioned, Stan was indeed a good man, a respected member of the Italian community and a successful businessman. To me, Stan was always the wise one. If there was ever a situation or an issue, Stan would always step in, put his thumb and forefinger on his chin and would analyze and remain in deep thought for a few minutes. Stan would then present a complete structured solution. Stan you will be missed. Godspeed my friend. Pina, family and extended family, please accept my sincerest condolences. May God give you all the strength to help carry you through this very difficult time.

Many, many years ago Stan was a close friend as we grew up on Preston Street along with our other Italian buddies Carlo Montuoro, Joe Calabro, Carlo Bucciarelli, Torindo Panetta and Roberto Zanchetta. As time passed we grew apart as each of us pursued our lives, although we saw each other from time to time. I reconnected with Stan in 2015 when he graciously donated several raffle items for the charity gala I helped organize in honour of my late wife, Gina. It was fun to catch up with him after all these years and reminisce about our years on Preston Street. He was a class act before and again two years ago when we shared some special moments together. I am heartbroken over his passing because he was a true gentleman and a lifelong friend. I extend my deepest condolences to his wife Pina, his sons and the rest of his family. Stan was a good man, a respected member of the Italian community and a successful businessman. May God bless you Stan, you will be deeply missed by all, including your Preston Street friends.

First, my sincere condolences to Pina and the children. I know of Stan only as a customer of your wonderful restaurant for more than 15 years. I was introduced to the restaurant by the then president of Bell Canada who was a frequent patron also an admirer of Stan and Pina. Sitting at the bar and chatting with Stan was a wonderful opportunity to share life's moments. Stan had the ability to understand and accept everyone's point of view. I will miss him deeply but will continue to support Mezzaluna and will toast to the memory of Stan on every visit.

Pina and family. We are so sorry for the loss of your husband and father. Stan always had the greatest smile and welcome upon arrival to his restaurant. Mezzaluna truly was known as Stan's Place. On a sunny day, Stan could be seen on the patio talking, laughing and enjoying his guests. If he was cooking, Stan would always come out and greet his regulars, ask how things were going and catch up. Many of us in the community enjoyed his food, wine, hospitality and of course his many great stories! Stan always spoke of his love for Pina, his boys and their success. Today we will raise a glass in his honor.

Giovanni, we are extremely saddened to hear about the passing of your dad. We knew Stan as a devoted family man, a gentle giant who in many ways was larger than life. Stan was a legend, may he rest in peace with the legends who passed before him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire Carlucci family.
