ANTHONY CHIOTA Obituary

CHIOTA, Anthony C. "Tony" or "Cookie" to his family, died on April 23, 2018 at his home in Falmouth, MA at the age of 85. Anthony was a resident of Falmouth and formerly of Roslindale and Boston's North End. He was the beloved husband to the late Anna Ardito to whom he was married to for 57 years.

Born on March 15, 1933 Anthony was the son of the late Joseph "Bobby" and Angeline (Sarni) Chiota. He was a graduate of Christopher Columbus High School class 1952 as well as Boston University School of Management class of 1960. Anthony was a Korean War veteran serving at the Nancy, France Ordinance Depot from March 1954 until February 1956.

Anthony and his wife Anna were friends for 65 years. It all started when Anthony chased Anna down North Bennet Street with a pickle. He was a hard-working man that enjoyed simple pleasures, especially watching the Boston Red Sox, enjoying the beach, crossword puzzles and pasta.

A dedicated government employee for 36 years, Anthony worked in Social Security Administration until his retirement. Over the course of his career he worked in several offices in the greater Boston area. He served as the Branch Manager in Roslindale, Assistant District Manager in Cambridge, and District Manager in Lynn, Roxbury, and Quincy. A passionate employee, he was named President of the New England Social Security District Management Association, and served as the National Treasurer of the National Council of Social Security District Management Associations (NCSSDMA). A man of faith and community service, Anthony was an active parishioner at both St. John's Chrysostom Church of West Roxbury and Christ the King Parish of Mashpee. While at St. John's was a Eucharistic minister and served on many committees including the Finance and Building, Feast of St. Anthony, Annual Bazaar, and St. Patrick's committees as well as a member of the Parish Life Council. While at Christ the King, he was an active member of the Men's Club Bingo committee and was the former Treasurer of the 50 Plus Club.

Anthony was extremely involved in his community over the course of his life. He was a member of the Alumni Association Board of Boston University (BU) for over 15 years serving as both Vice President and as National Phonathon Chairperson. He received an Outstanding SMG Alumni Award for his fundraising efforts with BU. He served on the Board of Managers and as Chairman for the West Roxbury Roslindale YMCA for several years, was a long standing board member of Faulkner Hospital, as well as a board member for Southwest Boston Community Development. He served as President of the Kiwanis Club in Roslindale West Roxbury for many years, was a member of the BU Alumni Association of Cape Cod & the Islands, a member of the Falmouth Senior Citizens Club, as well as founding member and treasurer of Capers Senior Citizens of Cape Cod. Most importantly, he was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather and will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
