Michael Hagstotz Obituary

Published by McCafferty Sweeney Slabinski Barnes Funerals and Cremations from Dec. 25 to Dec. 26, 2020.
On Sunday, December 20, 2020, Michael F. Hagstotz, husband, father, son, brother and uncle passed away suddenly at the young age of 52 surrounded by family. Michael will be forever remembered by his wife and best friend, Stacey (Esenwein), as well as his precious children, Philip, Sara, and Abigail. He was the beloved son of the late William and Francis Hagstotz, brother to Deborah (George), William (Renee) and Maureen (Leonard). Michael will also be forever remembered by various nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Michael was a native of Philadelphia but a lover of the beaches in North Wildwood where he meet Stacey in 1988. It was there, this couple with love in their hearts and big dreams began their story. In no time, they were married and had created a beautiful family together. Michael was a true renaissance man; constantly growing and learning and volunteering his time as a coach for his children's sports teams. He was one of the few dads who offered to cook pasta dinners for the Abington Football Team and St. Basil's Girls' Lacrosse team; we think he liked that though, chatting with the Moms. He was a mystery reader at school and loved sharing his stories as an attorney on career day. His most important contribution to the world was his role as a dad and family man. He would do anything for those he loved. He lived that sentiment early on even before having children of his own by helping his brother, sisters, mother, father and anyone else in the family who needed him. Michael was a selfless man. Michael was also a hard worker, dedicated to any endeavor he tackled. He led by example. He was the class President at North Catholic High School '87 where he met many of his lifelong friends. He then continued his education at Georgetown University '91 where he received his undergraduate degree in History. He found peace on the Potomac River as part of the Georgetown Men's Rowing team. He went on to continue his love of learning by earning his doctorate in law at Widener Law School all while working as a longshoreman to support his family. After completing Law School, Michael fulfilled his dreams of becoming an Attorney. His devotion and dedication to his clients was beyond reproach. His down-to-earth personality won the trust of many as well as his humble manner. As an attorney, he knew when to be assertive and banter but also friendly as opposed to combative and this was how he won the respect of his colleagues and clients alike. Michael also volunteered his time at Grace Cafe offering free legal advice to the homeless citizens of Philadelphia. Michael could work a room, he enjoyed being surrounded by people; listening and telling funny stories. He was known for his long, entertaining tales or one-liners which he loved to repeat (even if they were wildly inappropriate). Our family has a storybook of memories but we would love for you to share yours as well. We are asking family and friends to email us your memories, pictures, and stories to [email protected]. Stories have the power to heal, and remembering Michael through the eyes of all will keep his spirit alive in our hearts. "When a man's stories are remembered, then he is immortal." - Daniel Wallace Relatives and Friends are invited to Michael's Life Celebration on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Immaculate Conception Church from 9 am to 11 am, 602 West Ave, Jenkintown, PA 19046, followed by his funeral mass at 11 am. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Due to the current pandemic and its restrictions, please wear a mask and social distance. The funeral staff will help to ensure social distancing. Donations to Grace Cafe, 55 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107 (215-568-6250) would be greatly appreciated by his family. Sympathy cards can be sent to Mrs. Stacey Hagstotz, 1470 Rockwell Road, Abington, PA 19001. Attorney Hagstotz was always a pleasant, professional and measured attorney when he had cases before me. I could always count on a funny comment or two. My heart goes out to his family, what a devastating loss.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Michael's immediate and extended family.

I was fortunate to have known Michael throughout my life. As kids, attending the same school and growing up in the same neighborhood, he was always kind with a good sense of humor. As life progressed, we would occasionally see each other and have enjoyable conversations about the old neighborhood. We also discussed family, fatherhood, and education. His kindness and good sense of humor were always present and much appreciated. I always looked forward to seeing Michael and sharing conversation with him.

My late parents thought very highly of Michael.

Michael will be sadly missed but will live on in our fond memories of him.

Respectfully,
Edward Hirsch

I have many memories from summer at my grandmoms pool. One memory that always stood out was Michael asleep as a baby floating around in his baby float. Even though there was lots of noise and splashing, Michael always floated around asleep.

I had the honor of working with Mike for several years and served with him on the Bucks County Bar Association Workers’ Compensation section. He was a truly good man, a valued friend, and a trusted and knowledgeable colleague. He was a tough lawyer but a teddy bear of a man. I’m devastated to hear of his passing and extend love and condolences to his family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Michael for the first time as a referral from my court reporter liaison from Veritext, who recommended Michael to handle my disability claim. He was such a sweet, pleasant and caring individual and was compassionate about helping me and I'm sure many others. He seemed like he had such a sweet nature. Please accept my deepest condolences to his family and all that knew him. Rest in Peace, Michael

Mike was one of the best friends and roommates I could have ever asked for. When we were seniors, my sister as a freshman had an incident and Mike had the baseball bat in his hand before I could even access the situation which wasn't as bad as it sounded. We had an incident with GU basketball fans that burst into our apartment and Mike was able to diffuse the situation. He worked his butt off at GU and I admire him.

I went to high school with Stacey and remember when she and Mike first met. They were truly destined to be together. Mike was someone who was kind and caring and will be missed by many. My heart and strength go out to my dear friend Stacey and her beautiful children, as they deal with the passing of a wonderful man.
