Johanna Benavides Obituary

University Place, Washington - Johanna Elisabeth Kerl Benavides passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love.
Born April 26, 1933 in Augsburg Germany. She is predeceased by her parents, Friedrich and Elsa Kerl of Augsburg Germany, siblings Irmgard Bell, Walter, Irwin, and Helmut Kerl, and daughter Isabella Hadden.
Johanna is survived by her loving family; sons Ricardo Benavides (Gina) and Carlos Benavides (Kurt), brother in-law Fred Bell, grandchildren Anthony and Dominic Benavides and her longtime companion of 37 years Alonzo Collins Jr.
Johanna came to the United States in 1961 and received her US citizenship on April 8, 1965. Being a military dependent, she travelled often, ultimately settling in Washington State in 1973.
Johanna touched the lives of many people with her smile, love and unique sense of humor. She was a very generous woman who believed in helping others . She was a lifetime member of the VFW and life member of the Humane Society of the US. She loved children and animals, but most of all she loved Jesus and her faith carried her.
There will be private services at the request of Johanna with much love to you all.

Mrs. B was like another mom to me; an immigrant from "the old country", she always made sure we were welcomed into her home and made sure we were fed and watered, always being the perfect host even when the visits were unplanned. She'll always have a place in me heart and memories.
