Somberg, Emilija "Milita" An accomplished artist whose paintings have been described as "sparkling with radiant light," died on 11/18/ 06 at the age of 82. Born in Utena, Lithuania on 2/20/24. Studied art in Europe and the United States. Received her Master's Degree in Art from the University of So. Conn in 1962. Married to Herman Somberg, a professor at the University of Minnesota and an artist whose works have been exhibited at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Landmark Center in St. Paul and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Member of the University of MN Women's Club. Herman and Milita's intimate friends included artists Franz Kline, Earl Kerkham and Willem and Elaine de Kooning. In addition to her husband, Milita was preceded in death by her parents, Jonas & Eleonora Matejunaite Obcarskas and several sisters & brothers, including Stanley Obcarskas and Antanas Obcarskas. Milita is survived by her children, Vladimir (Val) Kotsenowsky (Ann Kennedy) and Eleonora Florance; grandchildren, Emilija Florance, Charles Florance (Tina), Jonathan Florance and Erick Taft; and brother, Ceslovas Obcarskas. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, Nov. 24, 2006 at 11:30 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 804 2nd St. NE, Mpls, with visitation one hour before at the church.
