1949 - 2022

Michael J. Manley 1949 - 2022 East Longmeadow Michael J. Manley entered into eternal rest peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on November 9, 2022. Michael was a true gentleman, protector, and educator, born to Joseph A. and Joan (Lawlor) Manley in Springfield, MA. on April 16, 1949. He graduated from Commerce High School with the class of 1967. Michael enlisted in the United States Navy proudly serving his Country during the Vietnam War achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He continued his academic journey earning his Masters of Accounting and Masters of Criminal Justice from American International College. Along with serving as a lieutenant with the Springfield Police Department, retiring after 35 years of service, he was also a Professor of Accounting for 30 years at American International College. He served both positions with immense pride and integrity. In his leisure time, Mike loved to watch baseball games vowing to attend games in as many major and minor league parks as he could. He loved to spend time with friends at the Italian Club. He also loved to watch hockey, especially when the game included his son Kevin, first as a player and then as a referee. Mike was an avid fan of Notre Dame football. Mike loved to host his annual 4th of July picnic for family and friends, assuming his position as self-proclaimed grill master. Above all, Mike's greatest love was for his family. He was a proud grandfather and great grandfather, always finding time to spend with each grandchild and making it unique for each. Mike is survived by his devoted wife Mary (Dowling). His beloved children, Kevin and his wife Madeleine and Kerri and her husband, David Jackson all of East Longmeadow. He was predeceased by his son, Matthew. To cherish his memory, he leaves his adored grandchildren, Liam, Morgan, Alison, Kaelyn, Isabel, and great grandson Wyatt. He also leaves his loving siblings, Patrick and his wife Jodi, Brian and his wife Eileen, Sean and his wife Suzanne, Kevin, Maureen and her husband Stephen, Katherine and her husband David and Eileen. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, extended family, and countless friends. Michael has touched so many lives and left a lasting mark on all of those he loved. Calling hours for Michael will be held on Monday, November 14, 2022, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main Street, Agawam, MA. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at 8:15 a.m. and proceed to Sacred Heart Church 387 Chestnut Street in Springfield a 9:30 a.m. for Liturgy of Christian burial. Committal services with full military honors will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Charitable contributions in Michael's name may be to the Michael J. Manley Scholarship Fund in care of the Ludlow Elks Club, 69 Chapin Street, Ludlow, MA. 01056
