James McBride Memoriam
James Thomas McBride
10/11/1966 - 11/29/2022
James Thomas McBride ("Jamie") was born October 11, 1966, the first son of Thomas & Sherry McBride. He died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of November 29, 2022, at the age of 56.
Jamie graduated from McCullough High School in The Woodlands, Texas in 1984 and enrolled at Southwestern University, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in May of 1990. At Southwestern, Jamie was active in the Kappa Alpha Fraternity and served as its President during his Senior Year.
Having scored well on the LSAT, he enrolled at Texas Tech Law School and graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in May of 1993. Six months later, the Board of Law Examiners licensed Jamie to practice law in the State of Texas.
During his legal career he served as litigation counsel for the firms of Stibbs & Burbach, Shook Hardy & Bacon, and Jackson Walker. The career highlight for which Jamie was quite proud was arguing and winning a franchise tax case against the State of Texas in front of the Texas Supreme Court.
Growing up Jamie played baseball, basketball, and tennis. He loved baseball and followed the Astros enthusiastically, knew the stats, and could talk baseball non-stop. His hero was Henry Louis Gehrig to whom Jamie related because – in spite of a terrible illness – he considered himself "the luckiest man alive." Jamie considered his luck to be his three children - Allie Michelle, Maggie Elizabeth, and Jake Thomas McBride - of whom he was most proud and loved deeply.
A loving father, Jamie enjoyed cooking homemade meals for his family and loved coming up with new recipes, a favorite being his sun-dried tomato pasta recipe. He also enjoyed reading, driving his John Deere tractor, and watching his children grow up on their seven acre property in the country. He was also an animal lover, and never turned away a stray animal in need of a home.
In addition to his parents and children, Jamie is survived by his brother John and his wife Cheryl, his brother Jeff and his wife Gwen, his sister Molly Lasco and her husband Todd, his sister Megan Vanderslice and her husband Marc, and a number of nieces and nephews, including Tommy and Taylor McBride, Jack, Luke, and Finn Lasco, Chloe and Sophie McBride, and Molly Kate and Mac Vanderslice.
Jamie was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clarence and Alice McBride on the paternal side and Dr. James and Marion Harris on the maternal side.
In remembrance of Jamie's life, there will be a Memorial Service at The Woodlands Methodist Church in the Robb Chapel at 11 AM on Thursday, December 29, 2022. Afterwards, he will be inurned at the Columbarium on the campus of the Church. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Woodlands Methodist Church in Jamie's name.
